Please feel free to move this to general but as it concerns post whelping fluid stains I thought it best to put it here....

I have always used the green backed, white vet bedding for my litters. Not only does it show up any causes for concern with regards to the after effects of whelping but also indicates to me if we're having above normal leakage and to change it more frequently.

I've also had potential owners comment on how clean the pups and surroundings are because the white forces you to be more vigilant :)

However, the last two sheets I've had, don't seem to be coming out as clean as the previous ones. I haven't changed how I wash them (ariel tab, oxyi clean whites powder and two cap fulls of zoflora) and the supplier is the same.

Also, the green backing is still hard. In the past it has gone nice and soft, making the whole piece more malleable and preferred by the girls. It's been easier to cut for sending off with the pups. I'm thinking that the hard green backing means that the piece isn't moving as well in the machine to enable better washing and these aren't small in size (48" x 48").

I have put it on the synthetic setting in the machine and hot washed it.

Any other suggestions please?

Personally I don't think the vet bed is the same as it used to be. We bought a piece that was the named brand VET BED, it wasn't cheap but it is a lovely piece & the back is soft..it is kept especially for whelping/rearing pups. I have bought other pieces which are cheaper & the backing is hard, even after lots of washes...don't know what the answer is

All of my pieces have come from the same place on Amazon - petnap, so unless they have changed the manufacturers or process, I'm stumped :(

They may have changed supplier easily. There are many varieties of vet bed, same colour same backing but different thickness for example. I tend to buy the beds at shows and choose by thickness - it seems to me the more thick ones are better quality and last longer. I prefer grey with green backing for everyday as well as whelping.
