Can anyone tell me if they have any experience of hormone testosterone replacement in a castrated male dog. My dog was castrated 3 months ago due to medical reasons (tumour in testicles, biopsy afterwards found it to be benign), he is 11 years old and is not coping well now, he seems scared during walks and just seems a lot less happier and maybe even depressed.
He used to love his walks (wanted 4 walks a day!) and within 2 weeks of the operation, he completely changed his personality.
He has been checked over at the vets (blood, thyroid, urine tests as well as physical examination) and has a clean bill of health.
I just want my old dog back, it is breaking my heart to see him like this.
Ps If anyone has got this treatment for your dog, please can you tell me the cost?
Thanks for your reply. You've given me some hope that it might be possible to improve things for my dog. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much though. My vet is researching using testosterone as she has not done it before so hopefully I will have a treatment plan soon. I have never been in favour of routine castration and I am still heart broken at having had to do this to him, even for medical reasons.
Just a couple more questions please,
How long after castration did you start giving the tablets? (It has now been 3 month since my dog had the castration)
Did your dog just go back to normal or was there still a difference?
