Hi everyone I am new to this forum and just look for some advice please.
I have a medium breed bitch (who is a very loved family pet) she is fully health checked and free from any hereditary diseases with a brilliant kc  pedigree. after a lot of thought and searching for a sutible stud dog we decided to have a litter from our girl. She was mated on day 11 after recommendations from our vet as we had blood tests to make sure the time was right, the mating was very relaxed and they were tied for around 50 min she is now at day 34 after the tie and is having all of the signs of pregnancy she is very clingy has a increased appetite and nipples have all enlarges and gone pinker in colour her back 4 look as though they are filling with fluid so today we had a scan and the man who came to our home to do it said no puppy's I don't know if it makes a difference but she was on her back when he scanned her (she was very comfortable and was not distressed at any point) could he have missed something or do you think it could be a phantom I am goin to take her to the vets at the end of the week just looking for a little bit advice please

Others will disagree but I have never bothered with scanning.   For the simple reason it only confirms, or not, a pregnancy at the time of the scan.  Not that the bitch will carry to term and it's not accurate.   As others will tell you when they get more puppies than anticipated!    Just plan on her being pregnant - by 7 weeks you'll see puppies moving around in any case.   Eve if she's a maiden bitch, if he's a proven stud dog, and she was receptive at the time she was mated, it's 99.9% likely she conceived - unlike with humans, it's far less hit and miss.

Yes, you might have a need to know ahead of time so you can clear your appointments and provided the scan is accurate, it might help to know numbers, but the fact is scanning isn't accurate and as said, only means she's pregnant, or not, at the time of the scan.

I have had the occasional false pregnancy in my bitches, but usually not until after the due date.

Even if I got a no, I'd still be watching and waiting come 62 - 63 days!!!

Just be aware, sick dogs to to the vet - do you want to risk her picking up some infection at this point?   Or stressing her out?   Again, I'd just wait, make plans, set up your whelping area/box and keep fingers crossed.    Don't let her eat a lot - once she's whelped and you know how many puppies she has to cater for, then you up her food.   Just make sure she has a good quality food and keep her on the lean side - her puppies will take all they need before and after birth!

I had signs in my girl, thought she was pregnant and twice she missed. Third tine lucky and didn't do idexx but went to a local repro vet and did progesterone in the morning, results at lunch time said mate asap... Idexx I had taken previously was that they weren't sent off until the evening and then idexx didn't process them until the next say and got results in the afternoon.
Maybe consider another scan in a weeks time if the scanner is good and see if anything shows then. You'd see something by then even if she took a few days later from the mating. Fingers crossed but wouldn't be heading to the vets for this.

suejaw, can you say a bit more about your experience with idexx and why that didn't work out for you?  (Do you remember the levels etc?)

The quality and accuracy of US scanning depends on the skill of the operator.
Some aren't very accurate and Ive been told in the distant past...."no pups" and had big litters
