I have spent a huge amount of time and effort this past week trying to find a suitable insurance policy.....and am beginning to lose the will to live!
The difficulty that I'm having is that many providers seem to have a blanket exclusion for dogs that are "used for breeding".
Whilst I consider it perfectly reasonable to exclude those conditions that are specifically related to breeding (eg. C section, eclampsia, etc.), I can't understand how having the occasional litter of puppies would make my bitch a higher risk for non-breeding health issues, and why this should make her non-insurable. In fact, as I do plan to breed from her, it means that she's health tested for just about every possible testable condition, and holds excellent results, which, I would have thought would make her a lesser than average risk.
I have one litter every 2 to 3 years when I want to keep a puppy myself and to keep my line going, though I obviously do sell the rest of the puppies.......does this constitute commercial breeding in insurance terms? It does appear to do so.
What do other show/hobby breeders, who have the occasional litter do? and can anyone suggest an insurance company that would offer cover under my circumstances?

The Kennel Club offers insurance. http://www.kcinsurance.co.uk/pages/ourpolicy.aspx

Pet plan and the KC off the top of my head.

Avoid AF as they have null and voided my policy because I was trying: in their policy it says to notify them if thinking of it, I asked if I notified them would that make a difference and they said no they would then cancel said policy

You could also try Agria.

I think Agria actually run the KC insurance, don't know if it would affect premiums going to them direct.

Tried Petplan to get a lifetime quote for Zuma when Axa changed but they would not do lifetime because he was .........a GSD aged over 6 !

They do indeed run the KC Insurance. I did a quote on both sites and Agria were cheaper, although vet fees were slightly less.
