My Beagle is due to have a cruciate op in 2 weeks time. Can anyone advise what I should expect i.e. recovery time, time she must be crated etc. She has been referred for this TPLO to Dick White and would be interested to hear from others that have gone through this.
Many thanks

My dog was rushed in today as an emergency as the cruciate in the other back leg tore, so she is having a double TPLO tomorrow. She is being kept sedated tonight as she is in a lot of pain and cannot walk.

I really would like to hear from anybody who has been through a both legs op to know what to expect. How will she be able to move around, what is the repair timescale.
Please let me know if you have any advice on how to handle recovery

BTW She has lost a massive amount of weight over the last few months so hopefully this is not the cause. ( the original weight I mean, not the loss that could only have helped take the strain off her legs) My vet has said that she has had a weakness there from birth so was not at all surprised that the other leg went as well

Sorry I have no experience on this one.  But I really hope that she gets on ok.  I know how worried you must be.  Sending positive vibes.  Jean

Many thanks all. One leg I can cope with but not sure how she will cope with 2 legs at same time as I can't carry her everywhere. I think maybe I need to Google around

I only have experience of 1 leg being done, we used a towel as a sling to support the back end, i'm sure it would work ok for 2 legs? do you have any one to help you get her out for toilet? It's amazing just how well they do use the leg after the op...2 will be a different story I know
Maybe they will keep her in for a couple of extra days?

hope it all goes ok x

She had op today and out on Sunday ( fingers crossed) The specialist told me today when he phoned that in a couple of days she will want to do more than she should as she will be without pain ( only soreness) and legs feeling stronger than before. I have cages in the lounge, bedroom and office and will make sure that she only does what I am advised she can do.  Luckily I have no stairs and we work from home so I can be with her 24/7.
I must keep her from the other dogs so they don't bother her.

Sometimes dogs are such a worry

I just found this amazing blog. I thought it may be interesting to any others faced with a double TPLO http://ochocoandpeaches.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/ochocos-double-tplo-surgery-two-knees.html

She was allowed home today but what a pitiful sight. Both cruciates had completely ruptured so absolutely cage rest apart for toileting. She is so hangdog bless her, but no weakening it is cage, cage, cage. She has a sling they have let me borrow to help her walk without too much strain and a harness so the support will come from the centre back and the sling further back. I have taken her into the garden twice but no sign of a wee, I think she will wait until she is desperate enough to go while on a lead, harness and sling.
She has a tall collar thing as recommended by Tatty-Ead in another post that is due to be delivered Tuesday, so until then she has the 'lampshade' which I was warned by the specialist this morning 'Is Essential' as any infection from licking could go right into the bone where the screws are, which would be very serious indeed.

I am having a hip replacement but have put my op on hold until she is better as my dogs needs must come first. When she is healed sufficiently then I will make arrangements for my hip as I am likely to need the cage then !!!!
Oh the joy of doggies - little darlin's
