The 'Microsoft' calls are a huge scam!
We had these, quite a few.
Then one day they called and I had some time on my hands :-D
I kept him going for half an hour, pretending to do what he asked, then huge panic because something had gone wrong - black Screen, blue screen etc. He even discussed it with another person, said to be his supervisor. In the end he was asking what OS I had on my system, and I told him he already knew as he'd phoned me.
After half an hour I let slip that our OS is Linux - OMG the language! ROFL didn't think he'd be able to swear so fluently and fruitily

A year later we had another call (they must have forgotten us) which DS answered. There followed a long discussion (20 minutes) which ended in the caller yelling at DS about how he lived in LONDON, and more swearing.
Not had any more calls from 'microsoft' since !!!???!!! Shame, as I love wasting their time :-)
Anyone cold calling here, either gets the phone put down on them, or if I have the time, they get the OAP treatment.
Caller - "Can I speak to..." "Is that Mrs..."
Me in a shaky 'old lady' voice - " Hello? Yes, Just a minute, I'll get her...." Leaves phone so they can hear noise of the house, clock ticking etc.
A minute later
Me - "Hello?"
Caller - "Can I speak to MRs..."
Me - " Yes, just a minute...."
This can go on as long as the person plays the game :-D Some will play for quite a long time before they get fed up :-D
And that's less time for them to call up vulnerable people :-D
Of course, if a number is left on the phone, it's reported to fraud, but they rarely leave a number
