Wow....thanks for all the replies. I have not been on for a while due to having a litter born 12 days ago so wanted to update in case it helped anybody.

Having waited 6 months for an inspection and expressing my concern about my upcoming litter I still didn't get a visit before they were born. I have since had an email from an assessor who wants to come out on the 1st July but as my litter will be just over 2 weeks I said no. I told them I didn't want the bitch disturbed and I don't allow strangers in with her until puppies are 3 weeks old and I would rather she came when the litter had left as I was worried about her coming here after being on other breeders premises.

As I have waited so long the KC have agreed to register my litter under the assured breeder scheme but without a tick....having read other people experiences it seems it takes forever to get a tick even after a successful visit so I didn't see any point in pushing it for now. I won't be breeding again until at least next year so hopefully get assessed before then.

When I rang to try and sort my litter's registration I said to the girl at KC that it seemed like they bitten off more than they can chew and are getting overwhelmed. She agreed and said they are having to train up more assessors and  they are taking on volunteers that themselves need training. This really gets my hackles up that somebody with no experience or knowledge can come and tell me how to keep, excerise, feed and breed my dogs when ,like many on here have been doing it for over 30 years.
I would not mind at all if they were practical but from reading back through these posts some of the nit picking is crazy. As somebody else said leaving dogs water bowls outside where slugs drop in it and marking them down if the dogs bark.....they will fail me straight away as the majority of our dogs are kennelled and living in the middle of nowhere we never discourage them from barking especially if somebody goes near the kennels, there are so many gundogs being taken recently.

I know of so many good breeders that are pulling out ....they say it is nonsense and they don't need it for selling their litter as their waiting lists are always full.I've paid up for this year but may do the same.

I was just going through my filling cabinet and clearing out all the associated gumph that came with being on the ASB and came across my original inspection from 2011. In this report my exercise and free running of the dogs is 'Ideal for the Breed', my housing is of a good size and my cleaning regime seen as reasonable with no evidence of dog waste or any undue smells. My records and paperwork were seen as adequate and in line with what the scheme wanted with the only improvement needed being a bit more info on future training.

At the time I thought she was being a bit nit picky when the only fault she could find was that one of the fences was a bit wobbly.....oh the Irony of it!!!

Well my poor friend who had a puppy visitor on Sunday let her stud dog out the garden gate (see post on missing Elkhound in Scotland), was to finally get her visit today after a year.

She's in absolute bits, no sign of the dog anywhere.  She just could not face a visit and she and her sister rang the ABS person due to visit and got quite a lot of negative feedback about wasting their time and the expense incurred.

Worst was the comment that obviously the previous visit saying dogs needed more training was right!!!

Obviously the guy has never heard of independent hunting breeds, or a dog of any breed doing a 'runner'.

We are talking about a stud dog, who may have got wind of a bitch, it's the middle of nowhere, and the idiot went out to his car to get photos of his previous dog, leaving both front door and gate open, while she was busy talking to the wife.  They had been told to be careful with door and gate.  Her two tots can follow the rules for goodness sake.

Anyone in the North or Scotland could you please share on Facebook etc, she's getting desperate, as ti looks more and more likely that someone has taken him in and plans to keep him.

She's checked with Road and Rail Agencies for him being picked up killed.

I too was in the scheme but did not renew.the assessor was more concerned with paperwork than the welfare of the dogs. I was commended on the day for my info pack but when the report came through it said I needed to give more info on breed specific grooming. The assessor was a complete "jobsworth". He did have one of his own dogs with him which was left in his car for hours, not something I would have done. I did phone KC when I got the report and most of the comments were actually overturned just by making the phone call. Waste of money as I found previously with KC. Never again.

My litter is due in a couple of weeks. I contacted KC about 2 weeks ago and had a call from them on Friday to say their Assessor would call me in the next couple of days. He has done exactly that and a vist is scheduled for next Friday so I cant really fault that. My last visit was about 18 months ago so needed to have a visit to tie in with UKAS even though I have all fourt accolades andklast time had a 'glowing report'
Still wondering how this visit will go though with a new Assessor. Last time I had Bill Lambert and Sue Sampson . KC tell me they now have some new Assessors onboard. Just wondering if anything has changed since my last visit?

I informed Bill Lambert in April  that I had a litter due early June. he assured me a visit and made all ther right noises in that dept. I still havent had a visit. although the bitch didnt take, so no puppies. The ABS team dont know that of course. I am just about to mate a dfferent bitch and am waiting until just before she has her pups ( Sept) before I send Bill's e mail to me, back to him, where he says I will get a visit BEFORE my early June litter is born! I have no faith in the system at all.............

AMAZING.......since I posted on CD's this morning I have recieved an e mail form the ABS team

"Dear Ms Parry,

Your Assured Breeder Scheme visit has been allocated to assessor Mr John Shaw. He will be in contact shortly to arrange a suitable time to visit you.

Kind Regards

Helen"
Now if I had have  had a litter early June I would now not be letting them visit as I would have 4 week old puppies!

With the unhappy people I know it was the report stage that was the issue, not the visit, so fingers crossed.
