Yes I think we were alloud to go home if the coach had not arrived within a certain time but the number of times we had decided to start walking home you could be very sure the school coach would appear around the corner, we never missed a single day.

Up here on Exmoor we already had about 7" or so, had a bit of a thaw yesterday. In the evening it started again and by this morning we had another 12". It has finally stopped now at 15-16" plus drifts. Dogs love it, my chickens hate it and I am fed up with it! :)

All roads into our village were closed this afternoon- don't know if we now have access to the wider world- will find out in the morning.

Farmers are struggling with feeding livestock.

is the route to Brendon Hills (where my friends horses), and roads for Monksilver OK.

The A39 has been bad all day beyond Williton, towards Bridgwater. Brendon Hills are just behind me (I'm at Wheddon Cross) We wouldn't have got up there today. A396 Minehead to Tiverton was blocked just before us and as far as Dulverton. A combination of heavy snow and fallen trees. Quantocks badly hit.
My son walked down to WX ( we live in Cutcombe) and found County road guys putting road closed signs at all four routes out. We haven't been snow ploughed today, due to county resources being so stretched. Ironically, local farm lads did our lane, but one couldn't get any further!

Should improve tomorrow I expect! :)

The horses are next door to Raleigh Cross Pub/Hotel.

She had the farmer next door put a Bail of Haylage over the fence when he was feeding the sheep, in case she couldn't get up.

Right, so does the friend come up from Monksilver? If so, she would probably normally go to Elworthy Cross and would have to go up Elworthy Hill on the B3224 to Raleighs Cross.

Usually the hill can be difficult in snowy conditions, I haven't heard anything about that particular part of the road today, however, the Brendons are generally, at their highest point, a bit worse than us!! Most of Exmoor is under a blanket of heavy snow.

I would lay a bet if your friend is needing to get to horses she will have made it by hook or by crook! :) Just seen the other bit of your post- if she didn't, so long as they have some hay, they will be fine.

They have free access to their stables too, and are rugged up.
