Thank you for your reply Cooper :)
My retrievers can retrieve and can protect themselves I hope if needed - but the only time they would need to is from dog aggressive dogs
The
Kennel Club Breed Standard says for a SBT
Characteristics
Traditionally of indomitable courage and tenacity. Highly intelligent and affectionate especially with children.
Temperament
Bold, fearless and totally reliable.
It doesn't say Aggressive.
To
protect itself as you wish with your dogs it does not have to be dog aggressive - it doesn't have to start the fight does it?
I am not suggesting you are not responsible Cooper and control yours and I'm not suggesting that you allow them to go out looking for a fight (although it sounds as if they would if you let them)
I just worry that a lovely breed such as SBT's could end up banned because of some people continuing to breed aggression in the lines and these dogs ending up in the hands of irresponsible owners :(
I wonder if it would be better to have the breeds courage and tenacity and looks without aggression than lose the breed all together ?
SaraW :)
