Can anyone tell me whether Azawakhs have been shown in the UK and where? Apart from DD I can't seem to find much trace of them in the UK. If I am missing something completely obvious please let me know...thanks again everyone :-)!

Think they are on the Import Register, there are a few in the country but not many have seen a few at companion shows but not at open or championship shows but then I do not attend that many so there may be more about than I am aware of.

There are 3 breeders on Champdogs, maybe they can tell you if they are shown.

Azawakhs can`t be shown in the UK yet as they don`t have a breed standard, although they are listed on the Import Register

Thanks everyone. I see that one of the breeders on CD has moved back to Sweden. So far I've been able to trace three in the UK...

Nova, do you know where can I find information on the Import Register please?

Kennel club website, use their search facility and it should explain the purpose of the Import register.

The Az are on the Imp. Reg. but do not as yet have a standard in other words they are a breed recognised by the KC but there are not enough of them in the UK to have formed a club or to have produced a interim standard. You can show them at KC licensed companion shows but not at open or championship shows as yet because a judge can't judge a dog that does not have a recognised standard.

Think most people would think they a Sloughi as they look similar and of the same sort of colour but I believe are a bit smaller  and extremely aloof.

They are far narrower and more 'fragile' (not the right word) looking than a sloughi. Very beautiful dogs. There is one from the UK who is shown here in Ireland from time to time and there were a lovely bunch of 6 or 7 of them at the breed showcase stands at Crufts 2012. I you are on facebook there is a great group called 'sighthounds of the world' where owners, breeders and fanciers share photos and info's, often of lovely azawakh's :) :)

I didn't think that they went on the KC import register until they have a breed standard?
- By Nova Date 09.07.12 12:08 UTC
Think the term used is recognised but the KC, not sure about which register they are on but the KC describes them as Import and they can be registered so I have no other way to describe them other than Import Register but they can't be shown because they have no standard.

They are far narrower and more 'fragile' (not the right word) looking than a sloughi.

Said they were smaller hope they are not thinner, being smaller they do appear more delicate but I am not sure that they are particularly narrow they seem about the same sort of balance of conformation as others of similar type and those I have met were in no way slab sided if that is what you mean.

Hard to find photos to aptly describe it but the sloughi's I know here in Ireland are quite strong looking whereas any azawakh I have seen is far finer. This is not to say any of the ones I have seen are correct representations of their breed though they are all show dogs. Both a little too aloof for me! :)

Difficult to judge from photos it is best if see them together and I am not arguing with you, I agree they are smaller and therefore lighter boned but it was your saying narrower that I did not agree with as you see from the Sloughi photos there is not much of them although they are taller. Would hope the Az were not even more light and narrow allowing for the difference in hight.

Narrower was probably not the correct word :) If I am honest the sloughi'sshown here in Ireland look overweight to me.

I watched live streaming from the world Show last year and saw Azawakhs on there for the first time.
My first impression was they are taller than they are long - an unusual shape compared to most breeds... they were almost rectangular heightwise compared to length.

I have looked at the standards for Sloughis versus Azawakhs and see they are meant to be of equal height and weight; but the Azawakhs are far shorter in body length in regard to leg length which gives them their unusual rectangular shape, almost like a sighthound on stilts.
