As the title says are they worth their price and can they do the same as a food mixer?

OH YES....................I bought one at the Good Food Show 2 years ago and lOVE it! My daughter is waiting for me to die ( I'm 51) so she can have it!

I bought one in 1972 - don't know why, I couldn't afford it, didn't have a kitchen and couldn't cook! Anyway it finally died in around 2002 and I was bereft! Cheaper ones seem to do they same but they certainly don't last a fraction as long. Think the Bamix motor and bearings are far better quality than in cheaper makes. Never had anything as good for getting lumps out of gravy/sauces/custard etc!

My sister bought me one..............
I am not all that impressed, but thats because I am not much of a cook.
It turns granulated sugar into caster, or icing sugar consistency. Also capable of lots of tricks.
But you do have to be a 'cook' for it to be worth the money.
