Been to the vets for a health check to day she's put  a kilo on in weight up to now although i'm not over feeding her and she isn't eating as much as she could before , the vet say's she's carrying 3 pups on  left horn and one big one on the right she's wondering if we may be better going for an ellected cesarian that they would do on her 62nd day that way there's a chance of both her and the pups pulling through anyone got any other suggestions as to what they would do in simular situation.  If  we don't do an ellected and she goes into labour during the night i would have to travel a fair distance with her in the car to a duty vet that i'm not familiar with and obviously it will cost a lot more also i tried ringing them the other evening and i was trying for 3/4 hour before they answered the phone , i don't fancy needing to contact them once i realise my bitch is in trouble and having to wait that amount of time , when they did answer they said it was normal to have to wait if they are dealing with someone else at the time, i was also told that i couldn't just turn up i had to inform them before setting off in case they were dealing with another pet at the time.   I don't feel confident  in them at all. Out of hours vets is a HUGE problem these days sadly. :( What you need to know is what the line your bitch is from is like -do they usually self whelp or have problems? And do the bitches normally give birth after 63 days or earlier? Many toybreeds can be up to a week early, I'd never expect mine to go 63 days, so by day 62 you may well be too late anyway as she could have gone into labour on day 58.

Hi Lilly's mum free whelped two litters but had to have a cesarian for her third litter she was also spayed at the same time so what do you think? Annemarie

I have a breed that usually require c sections , not the same as yours though . Although mine have always self whelped even with larger than average pups.
My bitch had her litter 2 weeks ago and I had everything prepared she went way over her time and I was a bit worried ( ok a lot worried ) but the vet still assured me that she was okay .
If you decide to let her self whelp have some KY jelly at hand I find this helps the pups slide out easier.
I have another breed also that normally whelp fine however one of them needed a c section a few years back and it was a lot of hard work , she didn't know the puppies were her's and it took her a long time to recover , I ended up hand rearing them , but it was enjoyable when I look back , just hard work at the time.
I know others who have had their bitches have sections and be fine , but in my experience I would rather mine try to self whelp.

Do you have a mentor within your breed who can help you ?
I hope everything goes smoothly , please keep us updated on what you decide and the outcome when the puppies arrive :)
