Just wondering if you work in a school in an admin role do you get paid during the school holidays......? Something I had never thought of before but just chatting about it today and wondered.

Generally people are paid every month, as the wages are staggered into 12 payments.
School staff (my sister ) and termtime staff in other areas (like me).

It depends on the type of contract as there are contracts that are specially term time jobs. This happened at a company I worked at that had sales staff in the primary and secondary sectors.

Not sure about schools

Going back a few year to when I done the salaries in Local Authority the payments were pro rata for either 46 or 47 weeks of the year depending on length of service then paid over the 12 months. So yes you were paid at the holidays but only for the time you worked and your 6/7 weeks annual holidays not the full amount of holidays the teachers were paid for!

No in my area we don't get paid for school holidays. We get paid for the number of hours we work per week at a pro rata rate of the weekly/monthly rate of pay for that position. That amount is then also offset at a pro rata of the total annual rate for the position but with the addition of however many days of paid annual leave you are entitled to ( as you are not allowed to take annual leave during term time the days are added on because you can never actually take them during the weeks when you are actually working).

These calculations then give a total figure for the year which is then divided into 12 payments so although you might not work at all in August (and of course you aren't paid for those weeks when you can't work as the schools aren't open) you do still receive a pay cheque for that month as your annual earnings are divided into 12 payments.

Somewhere I have the calculation as to how to work out how much you receive and it is really hard to calculate as there are so many variables but I can look it out if you need the info. There are some Local Authorities that do pay their school staff through the holidays but I think they are few and far between.

I work as a teaching assistant.  I have a permanent contract (been there 7 years) and work 30 hours per week (9.00 - 3.30).  I am paid for 44.3 weeks a year, which is divided into 12 monthly payments.  We work for 39 weeks (which includes 5 inset training days - not all teaching assistants work them) and the rest is payment for the 8 bank holidays and the annual leave entitlement.  It doesn't work out very much at all.
