Topic Dog Boards / General / New book by Dr Dodds on thyroid disease in dogs
- By Nikita [ir] Date 13.04.11 08:24 UTC
Just got an email from Hemopet, the charity Dr Jean Dodds works within testing and interpreting thyroid test results from all over the world.

She has written a book about it:

Tis on my wish list, hopefully I will be able to get it soon having Remy and Soli definitely with hypothyroidism and most likely Paige now as well.  Sigh.

There is also a wee article about diagnosing it for vets:

Might be worth printing out and taking in (I'm taking a copy to my vet today) as IME, vets are often pretty lacking in knowledge about the various ins and outs of thyroid problems, especially the importance of doing a full panel (rather than just one or two factors as seems to be standard, T4 being the usual one) and the wide range of symptoms that can be linked to a thyroid problem.

I can't get either of your links to work.

The Amazon link doesn't bring up any books and the other link is a missing page?

Thank you for posting this.  My dog was hypothyroid, and had a quite unusual presentation, but perhaps not that uncommon if you do your research.  It does seem that Jean Dodds is the thyroid guru, and I'm glad my vet always uses her panel as standard.

For anyone that's interested, I found the book but it's 'unavailable'

Nikita's post prompted me to go and look at the Hemopet website. I'm also looking forward to Dr Dodds new book.

There are some very interesting links to articles and literature. Included there is one for early treatment for fading puppy which is a must read for anyone with a litter suffering from FPS. It seems to me that currently the average Vet is not aware of the treatments that can be done for weak or fading puppies.

Ooh fab, thanks Vera :-)

Edit:  This is the US amazon link (hopefully)...

And the article link.

No idea what was going on there, I copied the first two links straight from my email.  Weird.
