A friend of mine's (nearly) 15 year old dog has been diagnosed with liver cancer. She is trying the CV247 (?) compound, and a complementary raw diet that goes with it that entirely rules out carbs. He has been fed 50/50 raw for the last few years, but now it will be all raw.  They can't give her a 'time frame' for him, merely saying anything from weeks to months, and she won't put him through chemo etc.

If anyone has any ideas, experience of the CV247 or have had any success with other paths she may follow to extend his time and preserve his quality of life, I would be grateful to hear them.

Thanks all in advance

20 years ago I had a gsd with cancer of the liver and contacted a homepathic vet as, at that time, there were no options available from my conventional vet.  The homepath told me from the outset that he could not save my girl but his remedies made a substantial difference to her last couple of months.  I would thoroughly recommend your friend contacts a homeopathic vet for advice alongside other conventional treatments.

Thanks so much for your response. Luckily our vet is a homeopathic vet, and has prescribed among other things milk thistle. The CV247 is not a conventional treatment, and is not proven, but is not harmful in any way. There are only 8 vets listed who are open minded enough to offer it, and our vet is one of them. The way I see it is so long as it can do no harm it's worth a try.

She too has been told that there is nothing they can do to save her boy, other than possibly chemo which she will not do under any circumstances. What she is hoping for is something to (maybe) slow the progression, and to make sure that his time here from now on is comfortable, and is good quality.

Glad it made a difference to your girl. It's a bugger isn't it when it can't be fixed.

CV247 supposedly has been found to stabilise the dog at the stage he is at when treatment is started. This has been quite successful for a good period of time and then apparently the dog will go downhill rapidly and may be 'gone' in a day. Up until then, the quality of life has usually been good rather than a gradual deterioration. Hard for the owner but probably infinitely preferable for the dog.

Many thanks for that info. The liver cancer was discovered accidentally whilst he was scanned because he had a bone stuck in his throat (it was a referral centre) and they found he had an enlarged liver. She then had ultrasound which identified it as cancer. So he had not been symptomatic for liver cancer when he started this, (no sickness etc) so that sounds good.  I agree with you totally it would be better to have good quality of life and then a quick end. Infinitely preferable for both dog and owner I think actually.
Thanks again.
