Well, I've put on 7lb over the Christmans period

I know with a bit of carefull eating over the next couple of weeks (and laying off the Dissorono & bailies!), that it wont be too hard to shift but it's given me the kick up the bum I need to tackle my flabby body! I need to tone up!!

I've found a great free ap on my iPod, that is also available on-line. So I can track my daily calories consumed & burned and also track my exercise goals. :)

I got myself a lateral thigh trainer several years ago, I've never used it, so that is being dusted off and brought downstairs, situated in a place I can see it (without having to drag it out to use).

My friend & her daughter want to shape up & loose weight, last night we agreed to do it together for the motivation and had decided diets were best left untill all the Christams junk-food is gone, but I must say I'm feeling so motivated today that I am starting now - no time like the present :)

Calorie counting worked well for me, so am am really pleased I found this ap to help keep me on track :-)
I've not done bad with keeping my weight roughly as I want it (without actually counting calories), for the past year and have had great success with weight loss by calorie counting several years ago. However, I am terribly lazy so always find plenty of excuses to stop me excersising in order to tone up - NOT ANY MORE!!!! I have finally accepted that the only way to get a nice firm body (or at least less wobbly than it is now!) is to actually get my butt in gear and do somthing :-)

Here is my plan for the next few weeks.
First goal weight = 9stone 7lb (so I need to loose 7 lb)
Daily 5 mins on lateral thigh trainer (need to ease myself in gently!)
3 x 20 min toning sessions per week (dreaded sit ups etc..).
Daily target of 1220 cals (cals used in excersie get deducted from cals consumed, so I will be consuming more than 1220 per day)

Motivation-
calorie counting app (logging all I eat & burn)
wanting to be able to wear the new jeans I bought in the sales - if I wear them now I think I'll burst the bum out of them
not wanting my belly to pool over the top of my trousers when I sit down :(

I do plan to increase the amount of excersie but I know how I work, if I set my goals to high to start with I'll put myself of and not bother atall -"slowly, slowy, catch a monkey" works best for me :-)

Anybody else got any plans like this?
How will you keep yourself motivated?

> Well, I've put on 7lb over the Christmans period

A lot of that could be fluid retention as, presumably, you will have eaten the type of foods over Christmas which will retain fluid!  :)  If you tackle it straight away as you are doing, the weight will come off before it turns to fat!  Well done though you, for maintaining a 'low-ish' weight and not allowing your weight to get out of control, it is always easier to get a small amount of weight off.  :)  I love your enthusiasm!  :)

> A lot of that could be fluid retention as, presumably, you will have eaten the type of foods over Christmas which will retain fluid!

Yep, also aided by the alchohol I drank last night! That's why I know it wont be too hard to shift if I act now. If I were to leave it I'd get depressed about gaining wieght, convince myself I'd never loose it and end up eating way too much junk food daily and pilling on the piounds! (I've finally sussed how my strange little mind works !)

> I love your enthusiasm!

Ahh, thank you. :-D
- By LJS Date 02.01.11 13:51 UTC
Yep new leaf turning over in our house as well or should I say tree !

Just done my first Wii Active Workout of the week with another three to go the week . Fridge cleared out and positive attitude in place on the shelves !

The only problem I have to face is my back but will make sure I pace myself and dont be too ambitious !

I have about four stone to loose so a big mountain to climb but determined I will do it  as Mike is joining me so we will both keep each other motivated
- By suejaw Date 02.01.11 13:58 UTC
Well done all of you :-)
Lucy just seen your posting about doing the Wii and then a dog walk, awesome!!!

If I lived near any of you then it would be good to get a regular exercise regime going on.

Psst, I don't have a Wii, was thinking about possibly investing in one. Whats the difference between a Wii fit and Wii fit plus?

That's great, it's so much easier to stay on track when somebody is doing it with you :)

> I have about four stone to loose so a big mountain to climb

It may be easier if you break it down into smaller goals, ie: stay focused to loose 7lb (keeping in mind your 4 stone goal), then another 7lb etc, becasue hitting those sub-targets is really motivational :)

I went from 13 stone to 9 stone about 10 years ago(I want to be back to 9 stone, but for now I'm aiming for 9stine 7lb) That's when I found calorie-counting works for me.
But one thing that will help anybody, nomatter what method they are using, is don't just go by what the scales say. You can find that even when trying really hard, you don't see it on the scales whiich is really de-motivating, but can find you have lost 'size' when measuring hips/waist/thighs :)
So everybody get your tape-measures out :-)

I think it helps to have a keep fit buddie. I still haven't managed to go to aqua fit and although I could do with losing a bit my motivation isn't there (and why would it, I depend on elasticated waists).

Watching stick thin Gok on the box the other day he does miracles dressing larger ladies and I was amazed when he said he'd lost 10 stone! Surely he'd have to had surgery to remove all the loose skin? Sorry, I'm digressing, you lot keep up the good work!

> I have about four stone to loose so a big mountain to climb

..........but it never really ends!  I have long ago recognised that weight control has to be for life, I am sure that I  have the potential to be really obese.  Also when the final surplus pound is lost, the work starts to prevent the weight creeping back on again!  :)  Lucy, I am sure that you will find a huge improvement in your back with every few pounds you lose, that in itself will make the effort worthwhile! :)
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 02.01.11 15:39 UTC
My diet starts tomorrow and I will be using the Wii too.  I've put on over 2 stone after doing my back in 19 months ago.  Just got home after buying all my food in for the next week.
- By joanne 1000 [gb] Date 02.01.11 15:41 UTC
good on you,im going back on the wii next week,i love running with stan, thinking of doing it properly, bit more concerned about him than me,so i am doing it gradually and build up slowly lol,i dont want to loose weight, but need a tone up!
- By colliepam Date 02.01.11 19:22 UTC
groan, suppose id better make the effort, maybe cut out wheat and do  extra walks-.hang on,though, dont they say you look"drawn"if you lose weight when youre older?hehe!Trouble is,its easy for me to ignore all  the bulges in winter, all those baggy warm tops-but come spring, theyll all be revealed in all their podgy glory.maybe its time to buckle down then!
- By suejaw Date 02.01.11 20:11 UTC

> I still haven't managed to go to aqua fit

We must go :-D

I like the idea of this Wii fit thingy, but need to know more as there are differences, which no one has shared with me as to what they are ???

If the weather wasn't so drab and the evenings were lighter i'd be more inclined to get back out jogging with my doggy..
- By ShaynLola Date 02.01.11 20:30 UTC

>Psst, I don't have a Wii, was thinking about possibly investing in one. Whats the difference between a Wii fit and Wii fit plus?

There's not that much difference between the two.  Wii Fit Plus is the 2nd generation of Wii Fit and includes some more types of games/exercises and has some added features such as counting calories burned (not particulalrly accurately, ime).

I've been well and truly off the diet wagon over Christmas so I need to get back to it in earnest now.  Aiming for 4 stones off this year (I've already lost just over 6 stones)...and I'd like to do most of it before mid-May....I'm off to the Barcelona Grand Prix and I need to look my best to bag myself an F1 driver.

In my dreams....:-D

WELL DONE :-D
- By furriefriends Date 02.01.11 22:11 UTC
well done losing the weight I have about the same amount to lose too.
Think we have two threads going about weight loss shows how much it is on our minds lol
Good luck to everybody whatever method you choose. maybe we need to do the motivation thingh together to keep us going ?
- By Goldiemad [gb] Date 03.01.11 00:38 UTC
Ah ShaynLola, i'm with you as I want to lose 4 stone by the end of this year. I have to be really careful what I do, I bought a Wii Fit and ended up in hospital after overdoing it, so hubbie got rid of it. I have various medical problems so do struggle with what I can do to lose the weight. I have just joined slimming world, so am going to try and do it mainly by healthy eating together with my dog walking.

Keep it up everyone and enjoy the Wii Fit, I had a great time in the few days I used it. Had a whale of a time skiing using me elbow crutches as ski poles!! My poor knees didn't know what had hit them.
- By suejaw Date 03.01.11 09:30 UTC
Thanks Jules.

I've had a look online at a Wii console, wii fit plus, the balance board etc as a bundle and its like £240 at the cheapest!!,...
- By Tadsy Date 03.01.11 20:21 UTC
Game (.co.uk) have bundles at £225.

Im back at Slimming world. Went last week and get weighed again on Thursday! Been fairly good this week but still getting rid of xmas food!
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 04.01.11 12:02 UTC
I dread to think how much i've put on...however, being pregnant it is my one excuse to indulge and not feel too guilty :-) Not looking forward to having to lose the weight after bubbas born. I have never 'dieted' and dont have much will power so will be checking this thread for others hints and tips and to (hopefully) be inspired by peoples successs stories :-)
- By Sawheaties [gb] Date 04.01.11 16:30 UTC
Today I went back to my Rosemary Conley classes where I lost 3 and a half stone. I have not been weighed since October and have managed to regain a stone :( Am desperate to get it off again as I don't feel good for it and I have refused to book a holiday until I have, we normally go away Dec or Jan but as none of my clothes would fit it was not an option!

Am considering the Wi fit.
- By mastifflover Date 04.01.11 17:35 UTC
Ohhhh, look what I've found :)

On the BBC website there is a vidoe for tips to stay on track with a diet:
"Psychological tricks to keep you on your New Year diet"
- By judgedredd [gb] Date 06.01.11 08:20 UTC
it was my weigh in this morning and i have lost 4lb, i am so pleased with myself, i really stepped up my exercise routines after about the first two days of stepping up the exercise i was thinking is it really worth it, but yipppppeeeeeee it is i am so pleased with myself, the best thing is i am not hungry and i feel like i have loads more ooommppphhh in me.
next week i have got two days swimming booked in and i am really looking forward to that.

I used pregnancy as an excuse to indulge ....... I paid the price though, I put on 3st 7lb   It took me a year of weightwatchers and exercise to get it off.  I swear if I have another baby im going to be sooooo careful what I eat !
- By Oldilocks [gb] Date 06.01.11 20:11 UTC
A programme to watch on BBC 1 tonight at 10.35pm, "10 things you need to know about losing weight".  We have to wait until 11.35pm on BBC Wales, we've got Tom Jones on at 10.35pm instead!!!
- By ClaireyS Date 06.01.11 20:33 UTC
Ooh thanks, OH is watching the cricket then so I might have to record that :)
- By judgedredd [gb] Date 07.01.11 09:20 UTC
watched that programme i found it very interesting especially the bit when he did the exercise and only burnt off about 19 grms of fat then he went home and came back the next morning and had done no exercise and had shifted 49 grms of fat something like that , and they explained that the burn came after the exercise,
and what about the milk when the fat globules stuck to the milk inside you and came out the other end.that is not the scientific way they put it, and have a protein breakfast instead of a carbohdydrate one as you do not feel hunger so much, and the soup same food that both soldier groups ate but the one blended into soup stopped longer in the stomache i found this programme really good shame it was on late at night but really good programme.

A programme to watch on BBC 1 tonight at 10.35pm, "10 things you need to know about losing weight".

I have Sky Plused it so will watch it later if it was any good ?

Things are going very well and have nearly finished my first week of Wii Training which has been really easy ! I have also stepped up the dog walking and the poor dogs dont know what has hit them as there is no dwaudling and mooching around on walks now all power walking at a good pace !

We have also bought a  season ticket for the Cotswold Wildlife Park which is just down the road and so we can take the girls round there whenever we want which normally takes a good three hours all the way round so that will be our regular Sunday monrnng activity instead of staying in bed watching Something for the Weekend !

Diet is going ok as haven't really over indulged, just taken things in moderation !

The plan it to loose it very gradually over six months.

How is everyone else doing ?
- By ShaynLola Date 07.01.11 10:07 UTC
Well, I'm back on the diet wagon and have done ok this week so far.  I'm sure I've put on about half a stone over Christmas but I don't want to confirm it on the scales...I just know that when I put on my trousers for work on Tuesday, they were tighter than they were before the holidays.

Went to my first Zumba class last night...it was brilliant!  Really looking forward to to then next class.  First personal training session of 2011 tomorrow...fully preparing myself for my trainer to punish me for my Christmas lapse.  In  the past when he has decided that I need to 'step it up', I haven't been able to move for 4 days afterwards so next week could be painful...*gulp*
- By mastifflover Date 07.01.11 10:22 UTC

> Things are going very well

Well done :)

> How is everyone else doing ?

I've not done very well :( I had high hopes in the begining for a great start, but there is so much tempting food left in the house that I have not been able to restrict my calories enough to loose any weight (such porr self-control - if there is scrummy food in the house, it always ends up in my mouth! :( ). On a plus point, counting my calories as helped me keep within a dialy allowence and according to my little weight-loss app, if I carried on like this I would loose 1lb in 4 weeks - not the plan but still a vast improvement on my eating habbits over the Chistmas holidays!!

I stocked up with some low-cal foods yesteday that I know will help keep me full but wont pile on the pounds. I can have a tasty meal of mushy peas, grilled mushrooms & a backed potato, yummy (well, I think it's yummy!) and much better than a meal of cold meats, garlic bread, sausage rolls, cheese and any other processed food that fall out of the fridge!

So, there will be no loss for me this week, but no gain.

I'd love to increase my efforts with dog-walking, but poor Busters bad elbows wont allow me to do that :( However, he did give me an extra work-out last night when he met his Rottie friend, I must have burnt lots of calories trying to hold onto him & stop him humping the rottie!!!

The excerise with my friend starts this weekend so that will be a great help.

wow. Dont think i've put on that much. managed to carry on running until i was 6.5 months so that kept the weight at bay & obviously dog walking helps :-) but now with just a few weeks to go i am becoming a bit lazy and have perhaps put a few extra pounds on around my bum and legs. Definatly not stones though so not overly concerned but will have to go back to cutting out that extra choccie bar i've been indulging on once the bubbas here!! :-)
- By Oldilocks [gb] Date 07.01.11 11:00 UTC

Yes, I thought so!  The one thing that struck me about it though was that they were giving good tips on how to feel fuller for longer etc. but not many of us 'cheat/overeat'' because we are hungry do we?   :)  It was really interesting though, I thought.
- By LJS Date 07.01.11 13:04 UTC
You will get there once all that food is either in the bin or in your tummy then there will be no more !!

oh you will be ok then, I suffered 24 hour morning sickness, sometimes it was an effort to walk the dogs let alone go running, but unfortunately was very rarely sick, just felt sick.  The only thing that stopped me feeling sick was food ...... so I ate pretty much all day every day
- By Dogz Date 07.01.11 20:49 UTC
Okay...heres my latest ploy for losing weight.
It seems to be working fairly well even with Christmas.

I have given up eating bread and potatoes.
Also joined Curves gym, and it is definatley working.
All my clothes are loser and more comfortable....the scales say I have lost weight.
The best bit is I eat and drink all other things as much as I fancy.

Karen :)
- By colliepam Date 08.01.11 09:43 UTC
thats good, karen! When i was still at work,i cut out bread as i was getting a lot of heartburn-i still ate chips!-and i lost a pound or more, every week, going from nearly 9stone to  just over 8,which suited my frame. But bread is so easy, quick and filling of course,i started eating it again, and im back up to nearly 9 again ,complete with lumps and bulges.Ive decided, once im over the flu or whatever it is,and feel more like it,that il have another go,wish me luck!
- By Dogz Date 08.01.11 11:04 UTC
I wish you all good luck.....it is so easy once you get used to doing it.
Also everyone else getting used to the idea that I no longer want bread or pots.
I really do eat loads of rubbish too, biscuits, choclate and such like.
#Get rid of the flu bugs and cut out something again!

Karen :)

have not eaten bread for over a year, if i feel like bread i get the genius bread it is nice and i can freeze what i do not need, i eat a lot of gluten free stuff, because my husband is a ceoliac and i have changed and eat more of his stuff every day and i do feel better for it,
yesterday i went to an agility show and normally can't beat my dog to the end of the course my schock came as i realised as i past the last fence the dog was behind me and i was not breathing to heavily, and of course the best bit was when people mentioned to me that i seemed to be running better and faster so i will be keeping up with what i am doing and hopefully weigh in this week on thursday will see another couple of pounds off,
- By judgedredd [gb] Date 13.01.11 12:00 UTC
Had the dreaded weigh in today, and they asked me to get off the scales and then get back on just to make sure
that there had not been a problem,
and talk about being exstatic i have lost 13lb in a week
done nothing different that i know of eating wise,
only stepped up the exercise so i am now floating around at home
they told me not to expect the same next week i don't but what a week
- By WolfieStruppi [gb] Date 13.01.11 12:44 UTC
Interesting about the genius bread - I'll have to try it.I've been getting IBS symptoms but I love bread! Most of the gluten free bread I've seen in the shops looks and feels as appetising as a house brick.
- By judgedredd [gb] Date 13.01.11 14:04 UTC
the genius bread comes in white or brown and i found it soft and because it has bits in it i really like it,
but i found the other bread in the gluten free range horrible they are like house bricks
- By Tracey123 [gb] Date 14.01.11 12:26 UTC
Blummin heck 13 pound weight loss in 1 week!!!!!! Wowsers!!

I re-joined slimming world and have lost 2.5 pound this week. Very pleased because I had a macdonalds and kfc in one day when I spent the day at the yard looking after my poorly horse!
- By LJS Date 16.01.11 20:26 UTC
