I have been recommended  to take my neo to Ireland to show, and like he look of the Munster circuit. However i can't my heead round green stars / whats involved in becoming an irish champion. Can anyone help.

To become an Irish Champion you need 7 Green Stars.

These green stars must be awarded by 7 different judges and one must be won when the dog is over 15 months, so even if you have 20 green stars before 15 months, they cannot be awarded champion until they win one over the age of 15 months.

A green star is best dog and best bitch from each breed. To be eligible for a green star you must win your respective class and be graded excellent or in the case of a puppy, Very promising and go up against the other class winners.

Hope this helps.

Have you already entered the Munster Circuit? As it starts this weekend so entries have already closed.

hi all

i've entered and am just about to load the car and leave,  cant wait.

i would reccomend the experience to everyone, it is a lot different from showing in england,  you need to have a good sence of humor and very good wellies and water proofs !

gota go lots to pack,  will let you all know how i get on.  bye

Think of your smallest open show outside in a field in the pouring rain ad you've got the Irish Circiut LOL!  Lots of fun though.

Thanks, so you can no longer be made up from just the munster circuit, with you needing to enter 7 shows minimum (providing you do well). Bliemy made it a lot tougher if so.

Were looking to do it next year because pup not old enough this, Be interested what everyone thinks this year.

Thanks for everyones replies

We went last year and the sun shined on the non show days and it poured down on show days. Take a gezebo  so you have some shelter from rain...or sun!!! and expect to share it, Get there early to get a decent place round the ring. There are areas cordened off for gazebo's next to the rings. when the rain comes down you'll have a crowd!! And be prepared to stand in the ring with your beautifully prepared dog in torrential rain, They just keep judging throughout it. LOL. It is all outside and as has been said like a open show in UK. Everyone is very friendly and we had a great time.

The judge will look at each dog and give out his Grades (You get a small card with the grade on it) so you could have all the dog in the class graded Excellent. Then he once he has seen all the dogs and graded them he wil place you. If you win your class and have an excellent grade then you go for the challenge for the green star.
However if you win a class with less than an excellent you cannot challenge.
Oh and they do the best Breakfasts in the world!! the catering is superb.
Have fun
Aileen
PS between my friend and I we took 4 dogs and came home with 3 green star bitches 3 BOB's 4 best puppies and 1 Green star dog. Not too bad!!!!

In numerically small breeds under the points system you often needed at least that many shows to get the title.

So in some ways it has become harder for the breeds with higher entries, and about the same for the numerically small breeds, but probably easier for the very rare breeds.

Thank you, I think iget it now, Luca is a Neapolitan Mastiff, so were lucky to get entries in the UK, a friend in Ireland said they struggle over their, despite having regular classes at shows. Definatly  going to give the Munster circuit ago next year i think.

Great post!!
I was looking into showing in Ireland with my TT's. I know this sounds like a really really stupid question........ but do UK dogs have to hold a pet passport to compete in Ireland?

>but do UK dogs have to hold a pet passport to compete in Ireland?

No, you don't need anything to bring a dog into Ireland from the UK.

But to show you must regiester your dogs with the Irish Kennel Club

Also Irish law requires that all dogs are microchipped, just come back from a dog show in Dublin.

Does anyone know where the results of the shows can be found online.

Thanks
