Topic Dog Boards / Health / Insurance for pre existing conditions

Are there ANY insurers who cover pre existing conditions. My goldie has Epilepsy and although M&S have been brilliant they have, justifiably (?) increased the premium for this year by £100!!

I'm pretty sure the answer is NO I'm afraid.

You need to work out if the cost of the medication and treatment for the epilepsy outways the £100 increase. I know with one of my Dobes who is hypothyroid the medication is relatively cheap, as are the once yearly blood tests. She was with M&S and they hiked the premiums up so much it just wasn't worth staying with them (the thyroid problem was diagnosed before insuring with them and I never attempted to claim being a pre-existing condition) and I don't think I ever made a claim with them.

My 5 dogs are now with AXA, the cover is good, the premiums are reasonable and they have even gone down on a couple of renewals.

I don't know how much the epi drugs are for your dog but would it be worth asking your vet to write you a prescription?

Only £100, you're lucky! M&S increased my premium by £213 last year although I did & will get some use out of their insurance ;)
They also increased my other bitchs premium by £168 when she had never had a claim! I cancelled her insurance.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing..........I wish I had known they had a reputation for doing that before I took it out!!!!!
Time to do some maths on potential costs versus keeping the insurance. Oh dear.................................
