I have had flatcoats for almost 30 yrs and never had ant to a groomer. just a general tidy up and keep up the brushing is all that is required. Put the cash away and treat yourself to a massage or something!
Are you a member of any of the breed clubs? They often put on events and grooming is often covered at those. Another way to find out about a groomer who understands how to properly groom a flatcoat would be to ask the FCR Society Area Representatives. Roz who is the area contact would no doubt help you. Flatcoats are not meant to be "shaved" on the neck and ears although sadly this is becoming a fashion trend. (I personally think it makes a dog unbalanced).

Yes I agree I really don't want him shaving which is why I am a bit reluctant to take him to someone I don't no. I'm not a member of a breed club as when I looked into it you had to be seconded by someone if that's the term. unfortunatley I don't know anyone who is a member. Do you have to be a member to go to a grooming demo?. Many thanks for your replies
