Hi wondering if anyone knows of a groomer that has had experience of flatties.  Either Doncster, Barnsley or Rotherham area (south yorks)

thankyou

I have had flatcoats for almost 30 yrs and never had ant to a groomer. just a general tidy up and keep up the brushing is all that is required.  Put the cash away and treat yourself to a massage or something!

It's just the ears I struggle with they tend to look worse when I've finished. Everything else I'm ok at

Are you a member of any of the breed clubs? They often put on events and grooming is often covered at those. Another way to find out about a groomer who understands how to properly groom a flatcoat would be to ask the FCR Society Area Representatives. Roz who is the area contact would no doubt help you. Flatcoats are not meant to be "shaved" on the neck and ears although sadly this is becoming a fashion trend. (I personally think it makes a dog unbalanced).

Look on the Flatcoated Retriever Society web site for Roz's contact details.

Yes I agree I really don't want him shaving which is why I am a bit reluctant to take him to someone I don't no.   I'm not a member of a breed club as when I looked into it you had to be seconded by someone if that's the term. unfortunatley I don't know anyone who is a member. Do you have to be a member to go to a grooming demo?. Many thanks for your replies

No you don't have to be a member, and if you go along to such an event you would no doubt find members there who would sign you into the clubs.

I would suggest you ring Roz and ask her for help. The area reps are there to help anybody, not just club members.
