I judged flatcoats at Henley and our indoor ring was tiny, but we asked to go outside and Doug the secretary told me that the centre only allowed the show to put rings infront of the building which they could not use due to the layer of ice covering it. On the way in I saw a gordon setter crossing the ice spreadeagle on it! Unfortunately Health and Safety forbids ice clearance....
I asked doug if I found a space outside could we use it for a ring. He said yes as long as the centre did not mind. So I went out and found a carpark in which there was a motorcycle training lesson going on. So I went into it and stood there watching for a few minutes, and the instructor came across and asked if I needed help.... lol So I told him I needed the car park and was he likely to finish soon. He was really good and said he would finish the lessons inside so we could have the car park. Doug furnished us with a table and two chairs, and th flatcoats ended up with the biggest ring of the day!
I think the Irish setters spotted us and came out to use the "ring" immediately afterwards.
I put pictures of my class winners on flickr if anyone is interested.
