- By white lilly [gb] Date 16.01.10 08:28 UTC
how much do you pay for hips and elbows to be done ive been quoted £250 ...for my boy to be done ,do you think thats a good price ?
- By danielle-k9 Date 16.01.10 08:43 UTC
I'l be interested to know this too as Ive never had to have a dog done but my aussie that will be getting this done in the near future.
- By Zajak [gb] Date 16.01.10 08:51 UTC
I have had a couple of mine done recently.  £260 or thereabouts and I travel out of Bristol to Newbury as its cheaper for me.  My local vet quoted £350 about 3 or 4 years ago.
- By AlisonGold [gb] Date 16.01.10 09:32 UTC
Had my girl hip and elbow x-rayed the other day, paid £138 something pence. That was using sedation at a Vets near Whitchurch where I always go for the hips.
- By white lilly [gb] Date 16.01.10 09:46 UTC
thats a very good price alison for both to be done where is whitchurch ?
- By Pedlee Date 16.01.10 10:00 UTC
Just over a year ago I paid £150 (under GA) at my vets + BVA costs on top of that.
- By Wirelincs [gb] Date 16.01.10 10:23 UTC
£115 for just hips including BVA fee...............
- By fecimus [gb] Date 16.01.10 10:27 UTC
I have just rung our vets we have a puppy who is 12 months in March so will get her done then!
They have quoted £76.38 to them and the £45 to the BVA (has just gone up!!)
so £121.38 I didn't think that was too bad!!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 16.01.10 10:28 UTC
I have been quoted just over £119 in Hereford.  My won Vet charged me £170 in Feb 2005!
- By Archiebongo Date 16.01.10 10:40 UTC
The BVA is only £40 and I had one of mine done on Tuesday!

ETA - the prices are on the kc website
- By Brainless [gb] Date 16.01.10 10:57 UTC
If only ti were just the BVA charge, ti si the Vets charges for GA/Sedation and the X-rays that vary so much.
- By AlisonGold [gb] Date 16.01.10 11:12 UTC
Whitchurch is in Shropshire.
- By white lilly [gb] Date 16.01.10 11:14 UTC
is it a lady that does it i carnt remember her name? alot of breeders in my breed use her ,does she get you to help hold the dogs ?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 16.01.10 11:17 UTC

- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 16.01.10 12:31 UTC
Cost me £150 just for Calida's hips to be done last year and Manchester used to be one of the cheapest places for vets fees, doesn't look as though it is anymore, maybe I was just paying for his new surgery.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 16.01.10 13:10 UTC
If I could get them done by a knowledgeable vet in Bristol for £150 I would be happy, as it is I £140 mile round trip to get them done for £120.
- By NEWFIENOOK [gb] Date 16.01.10 13:59 UTC
my last one was £230 but with my breed they use more GA but thats for hips and elbows inc BVA fee
- By Tanya1989 [ru] Date 16.01.10 14:01 UTC

We had to travel for few hours but in Cambridge(where we live) we were quoted £370 for the same...
Just to add we went to see Marilyn too :)

- By LJS Date 16.01.10 22:10 UTC
I would say don't go on price as a guide, go on reputation ;-)
- By peanuts [gb] Date 16.01.10 22:42 UTC
microchipping or tatoo ( Sorry ) started the 1st Jan 2010 as far as i understand it , when i booked my dogs in we were told that it is now required to stop ringers being used.

Hip Xrays :-)
- By peanuts [gb] Date 16.01.10 22:58 UTC
Here is what it states on the form.

From 1st Jan 2010 it is compusory that your dog is microchipped or tattoed to be able to be assessed by the BVA. Please have your microchips checked before making the journey to us, if we cannot find the chip we cannot xray your dog.

- By maddie11881 [gb] Date 17.01.10 02:11 UTC
I had my boys hips done under sedation and it cost me £147 including BVA. I could have got it done for £135 at another vet nearer but to be honest i wouldnt take a rat to them
- By white lilly [gb] Date 17.01.10 09:34 UTC
thankyou brainless ,i will get her done at the same time ....she is the only 1 i havnt had done.
- By annastasia [gb] Date 18.01.10 12:43 UTC
We use a great vet in Malpas Cheshire called Ewan Bryson, he sedates rather than GA, i cant remember cost its a while since we have been, we dont have the BVA as we show the dogs in Europe so have to get the German A Stamp on them, we have a female we need to get hip/elbow scored now just havent had the time lately. good luck with your results White Lilly.
- By white lilly [gb] Date 18.01.10 14:24 UTC
thankyou annastasia ..she goes tomorrow ...im excited and worried at the same time lol ...my boy goes in 2 months time x
- By annastasia [gb] Date 18.01.10 17:34 UTC
I know it is a worry, im sure she will be fine with her scores. x
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 19.01.10 17:30 UTC
Think if my young girl passes her eye test next month I'll have her hips done in Malpas.  Believe that they do eye testing there also?
- By annastasia [gb] Date 20.01.10 10:09 UTC
Im not sure about the eye tests, its not a problem in our breed, good luck with the eye tests x
