Where do I start LOL. It's mainly been the cats. Many years ago I bred a kitten that was a Tortie Point Colourpoint, so I called her Tosca Tortie. That was a play on words, Tosca being a Swedish type of cake and tårta in Swedish means cake. From there it went on. Tosca became the mother of for instance Vanilla Heart (another type of cake), Vanilla became the father of IceCream. There's been loads of other tosca varieties as well: Coconut Tosca, Lingontosca, Blueberry Tosca, Almond Tosca, Toscaflarn (a type of biscuit so her pet name is Biscuit). I then had a litter of 4 cream kittens and a Lilac, so the creams got sun names: Sunlight, Sunshine, Sunray and the lilac was called Dusk. Mating Dusk (pet name Dusky) to IceCream I kept a kitten I called Dawn, after dad. Dawn's kittens then became Daybreak, Daylight and Twilight, and Twilight's kittens were Sunrise, Moonlight and Eclipse. (All of these being pedigree names but most of them also used as pet names. I still have for instance IceCream, Sunrise, Moonlight. It used to be hilarious going to the vet and have them call in Vanilla and IceCream!)
I had two kittens rejected by the mother, they were premature and so incredibly tiny that I called them Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. The male got shortened to Mouse as a pet name, the he grew to the size of a small elephant LOL.
One kitten I bred showed already at birth that he was going to be very nice indeed so I called him Jackpot. He fathered Lottery, Bingo, Rollover, HotPick, Blackjack, Thunderball and Bonusball. HotPick fathered Lucky Dip. I've had Happy Easter and April Fool who were born on 1st of April and that was Easter that year -they were called that as well. Funny Bunny who had a harelip.
A current cat I have is called Ugly Betty -to everyone's horror, but I point out that isn't the entire point of the TV character that she ISN'T ugly at all, just not like a model?
Dogs -when I got my first Malinois her main purpose was to guard the house, so I wanted a name for a tough bitch. A friend suggested, as a laugh, Ripley -from the alien movies -now there's a tough bitch. I loved it and Ripley it was. Her first son became Arnie after Schwarzenegger but after that the pet names have been more common.
My husband got a red Maine Coon cat and his pedigree name was Here Comes The Sun so his pet name became Ringo. Hubby is John, so when we had a red male kitten born lats year and we already had John and Ringo that kitten became George. Last week another red male kitten was born so naturally he had to be Paul.
I could go on forever LOL.
