trying to find out about running shoes.....if someone is heavy footed and uncoordinated...would this count as  pronation? would you go for neutral? motion control? stability???? any ideas?

Lea is a running coach so she may be able to offer you advice - trying to remember her user name on here (perhaps she just uses her name  :-) ). Might be worth sending her a pm.

Sam my advice for getting the correct running shoes is to go into a proper sports shop, not your JJB but an actual running shop. We have a few our way, even Sweaty Betty has a measuring guide as well, not sure how good they are.

These people know their stuff, watch you walk and should watch you jog to see how your feet move and how you land on them. They also have a measuring device. So all in all from that they then can point you to the right shoes for you.
She Active also can do this..

> would this count as pronation

Pronation is the turning in or out of the foot when landing .  Definately go to a proper running shop to get asessed, when you know what you are looking for you then may be able to pick up cheaper shoes in the right brand from shops such as Soccer.net .

Am doing this on my phone so apologise for quick message. Agree with everyone. Go to proper running shop. They will tell you the shoe you need and how to wear them in. We have lincolnshire runner in lincoln. Runners world mag is a wealth of info. Google running shops. And you should find one. Dont go to jjb type places as they are not as qualified. Lincs runner guys actually run so that says alot :) anything else you need to know just ask :)

thanks for all the advise....but i just couldnt face going into a running shop full of those co-ordinated fit folk!!!! I certainly have no intention of running in public (probably be arrested!) but was planning to start in a small way just on our own farm here, in effort to regain the fitneess level I used to have, as Im not doing my hounds justice at working trials in my current condition. Trouble was when i started looking online for trainers i was blasted with technological terms so just wanted some rough guidance. ive checked my normal shoes and theres no uneven wear...but i am incredibly heavy footed (sent home after 4 ballet lessons as a child so not a new thing!)

I would strongly advise you not to buy online until you know what trainers you need!!!!!!
If you buy the wrong trainers then you could be injured, causing damage to joints.
Pronation and anti pronation and where your feet are either flat footed so roll in, or high arches so roll out (cant remember which one is which) Neutral are where your feet are 'correct' (very basic!!!!!)
But any good running shop will not make you feel bad as we all have to start somewhere :) :) :)
Lea :) :) :)

Sam stop being a silly billy ;-). I've not known anyone working in these running shops to think badly of anyone. They are there to help and generally do a good job of lifting your confidence too. If you didn't live so far away i would come with you as i need a new pair of running shoes as mine are falling to bits after the dogs have been at them.. What a waste of £70 i tell you.

I know i have high arches and also am very heavy footed. But know that your feet change over time so will to go back in for another check.
