Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Junior Warrant
- By walkhound Date 22.11.02 12:25 UTC
I was chatting to a lady at Ringcraft last week and asked her if she was going to so and so show and she said no, she was going up to a show in London (forget which one she said now) as she was going for a Junior Warrant with one of her dogs. Before I got to ask her . "oh Yes, I have seen dogs with that title, what does it mean?" It was her turn to go round the ring and then I forgot about it, until now. (I actually went to meet another trainer the other day, I put all my treats in pockets, the leads etc... and halfway down the hill I realised I had no dog in the car!!)

Anyways... Can someone here tell me how do you get you dog to have the title JW. (Not that I am going to do that, just interested.)

Thanks.

Sharon. :)

Toearn a Junior Warrant a young dog aged between 6 and 18 months must win breed classes at Open and Championship shows, and gain 25 points.

3 Points are won for a class win at a championship show, and 1 point for a win in a breed class at an Open show.

At least 10 points must be won at Open shows, and all classes must have a minimum of 3 dogs present. If there are not 3 dogs present, but the pyppy/junior is declared BOB, then it can claim the point/points provided there are at least 3 of the breed present.

In numerically small breeds this award becomes nearly impossible to win, as often there are not the required numbers in the young classes at Open shows (or even Ch shows some years) and it is rare for the youngster to go BOB!

In my breed only one exhibit has so far gained this award under the current rules. My Champion bitch had won more than enough Championship show classes, and had won 10 Open show classes, but four of these didn't have 3 in the class, so no Junior warrant, even though she had a CC before 18 months, and is now a Champion with 6CCs, and 2 RCCs to her credit.

Thanks Brainless.

Sooooo.. For example... in the last 2 open shows I attended my pup was the ONLY puppy in the breed. So I came first in the puppy class at both shows ( only me :( ) and then went best puppy in breed at both shows. (And these were Lab classes!)

I understand that as there were under 3 in the classes the points won't count, but there were MORE than three in the BOB class, so then the points count? (WOW. hehe. If they do then I got two JW points! LOL!!)

Oh sorry to dissappoint you, but you would have got the points, if you had won Best of Breed, not for Best puppy in Breed.

That's ok, I somehow thought I hadn't got it right. :)

can anyone tell me if you add up your own points and send them to the kennel club or do the kennel club do that for you and let you know that you have gained the title of JW.

I think you have to claim a Junior Warrant - it is not awarded automatically.

Hi sam, you have to write down everything that your dog has won, name of show, place, date, which class etc, and list points at the side of each desription. Send this up to the KC, they check it all out, and if its correct, will then send you your JW certificate. hth

Also most important, the number of dogs in the class, not number of entries, actual number that attended, which is the hardest to remember, if you dont mark your catalogue at the time.
