We would like to build our own whelping box and was wondering if anybody had a good plan that we could use to build one? We have thought about a cardboard one but realistically thing that a homemade one would be easier and able to be used again. Can anyone help?
Having made whelping boxes in the past (well - OH not me :) ) I won't bother again - wood is expensive and not terribly hygienic unless treated and that's time consuming and smelly. Next time I'm going to buy a Linkabord box - my friend used one with her Boerboel litter and it lasted very well. Much easier to keep clean.
Depends what breed you have but I use a big indoor rabbit box for whelp and 2 weeks! Easy to clean, plastic, can be disinfected, no seepage onto floor, has a cover for night/warmth
I use doghealth carbroad whelping box has a led & a special flooring, what i like about it you can though it away afterwards it keeps them nice and cosy.
Sorry must be losing the hours sleep. doghealth whelping boxs made of cardboard are good they have a led on box to make it warm & cosy at night & quite easy to keep clean. Also you can through it away when you are finnished with it.
I know you have send you would like to make one, but linkaboard are really good, are a good price, easy to clean and ca be used again and again. Lois :-)
When i bred westies we bought a cabinet from mfi. we used the base and sides. It was easy wiped and kept clean. Mum could get out and in easy and the puppies were safe
