Hi,

My vet in Hagley does. Its Clent Hill vet group. There is one in Bromsgrove and the other is in hagley.

Hope that helps.

Pauline Richards is very good at Hook Norton Vets near Banbury and all the field trial people round here use her - she uses sedation rather than GA - 30 mins and they're in and out.  She does digital xrays and will burn to a disk if you want them.  She charges about £70 for just hips or £130 for hips and elbows (rough costs because I can't remember exactly!)

I looked into this not long ago as a nice lady from here told me about it as i was concerned about a G.A.
I spoke to my vet who told me why they refuse to do it under sedation. Basically what she said was that when they are under properly they are able to get a much better x ray as they can rotate the hip and put them in a perfect position to be x rayed which is more difficult under sedation. Another reason is the anaesthatist can properly monitor the heart whilst under a G.A where as they cant under sedation. I have decided now as much as i hate G.A's i am going to go for that instead.
I know people will be sceptical as most vets will want you to stay and have treatment with them but i use the university which is a non profit organisation all profits go to research so they dont have anyone pushing them to use certain procedures for targets etc... and she did offer to refer me if thats what i wanted but after careful consideration i will be using a G.A

i worked at a university, and we always done them under GA. i got my boy done in Dec and got him done under GA. speaking to the anaesthetist and radiographer, they both agreed GA was better, you can manipulate leg better, so better chance of getting a good xray and less risk of it being returned. also, dogs under sedation are sometimes too light to allow proper positioning, and to "top them up" takes time as the drug must be drawn up and injected again, whereas under GA, the depth can be more closely monitored, and it the dog is light, the gas is turned up slightly and the result is almost instant. also, i like the fact a dog is intubated whilst under GA, for peace of mind if anything were to happen.

Its not for my dogs its for a friends dog who had a bad reaction under GA and nearly died.
Does anyone know whether the scores would get worse for a dog that does hard work and is scored at about 3years old? Will this be detrimental to the scores?

I had Willis scored under sedation - only it didn't sedate him enough and they had to knock him out - I wish they had just gone straight for the GA to save all the stress :(

If the hips are good they will stay good. If there is a problem then it will show up even more as it get older. My boy does a lot of field exercise (I live in the countryside) and he was scored at 3 1/2 years old. Elbows were 0 and hips were 2/3, so he obviously had good hips ;-)

I always have mine done under sedation. My boy was x-rayed as 3:3 under Ewan Bryson (as mentioned in a previous post). My friends bitch was scored at 3 1/2 years old, under sedation at the same Vets result 3:3. Ewan Bryson is very good and very experienced. I do feel it is a matter of choice but if my dog had a bad reaction I would be worried at GA too.

Mine are all done under sedation and have had good scores and never had one returned.  The bonus is that the vet gives me an estimated score and he's usually gets is there or thereabouts, doesn't stop me being impatient during the long wait for the results from the BVA!
