
i worked at a university, and we always done them under GA. i got my boy done in Dec and got him done under GA. speaking to the anaesthetist and radiographer, they both agreed GA was better, you can manipulate leg better, so better chance of getting a good xray and less risk of it being returned. also, dogs under sedation are sometimes too light to allow proper positioning, and to "top them up" takes time as the drug must be drawn up and injected again, whereas under GA, the depth can be more closely monitored, and it the dog is light, the gas is turned up slightly and the result is almost instant. also, i like the fact a dog is intubated whilst under GA, for peace of mind if anything were to happen.
