Topic Other Boards / Foo / Would/could you give up chocolate for a year????
- By Lea Date 06.01.09 09:53 UTC
Thats exactly what my 13 1/2 year old son has done :-o :-o
Well HAS being the operative word.
Tonight at 7pm he will eat chocolate for the first time in a year!!!!!!!!!
Why?????? He saw something on TV this time last year and said 'I can do that'!!!! So did LMAO
He had sweets instead of easter eggs. Sweets instead of selection boxes.
I am off later to buy a box of Thorntons Chocolate for him at 7. And my Aunty bought him a chocolate 'plaque' saying 1 year chocolate free!!!!!
I couldnt have done it, could you  :o LMAO
Lea :)

WOW - amazing - I would say yes but I don't eat that much but sometimes I just NEED chocolate so guess I couldn't then! LOL!

Well done to him - does he actually want to eat it again?  Silly question I guess!
- By Lea Date 06.01.09 10:09 UTC
He been dreaming about chocolate for the past month!!!!
He is not going to a club he loves tonight because it is on at the same time as he can eat chocolate!!!!! LMAO
Lea :) :)
- By suz1985 [gb] Date 06.01.09 10:15 UTC
he should have done it for a charity! would have raised a fortune!! :)  i could do it if i lived miles away from shops and other people, dont go out my way to buy chocolate, but if someone offers me some, or at christmas etc where its everywhere then i will eat it.
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 06.01.09 10:28 UTC
There is absolutely no way i could do!!! Couldnt manage for lent so a whole year would be impossible!!!
Is he going to give up anything else now?
- By Stormy84 [gb] Date 06.01.09 10:29 UTC
If I had to do it for a medical reason I could, but there is no way I would volutarily give up chocolate! I gave up coffee for 1 year which was hard to start with, but got easier with time. I wonder if it would be the same with chocolate? Hmmm :-)
- By brac Date 06.01.09 10:32 UTC
WOW amazing no i could not do it chocolate yummy
- By dexter [gb] Date 06.01.09 10:36 UTC
Wow.....not a chance i could do it :-p
- By Carrington Date 06.01.09 10:50 UTC
No I couldn't do it, well not unless I could substitue it for cakes etc, I guess I could then, but I'd probably be the size of a horse instead. :-D

I've never found chocolate fattening, I generally have a bar a day, (very naughty) I would really miss it.

All I can say is well done to your son, you must be so proud that he has such will power, it's quite extraodinary, gosh shame you can't put that on his future CV, I would be very impressed that he has such staying power. ;-)

Give up Chocolate for a year, piece of cake :)
Now cheese that I couldn't go without :(
- By St.Domingo Date 06.01.09 13:51 UTC
Chocolate is my only vice - so no way !!!!!!!!!!!!
- By yorkies4eva [gb] Date 06.01.09 13:55 UTC
WOW thats amazing!!! Well done to him, thats great especially at his age!!

I could do it i think, as i am not really a chocolate fan to be honest, never really eat it and nor do i crave it, although saying this, started my diet around a week ago and last night i haad a HUGE craving for chocoalte!! So i had a bag of buttons out of my unopened selection box (not many calories etiher ha ha) and felt relieved after it!! Hope he enjoys his choccy from thorntons!! Good choice lol!! :-D

Crisps for me!! Although not having them at the moment till i get back on track lol :)
- By Malakai [gb] Date 06.01.09 13:59 UTC
Easy! :-p I don't like chocolate much anyway! Don't ask me to give up jelly beans though ;-)

Well done to your son though, he's obviously going to go far in life with determination like that :-)
- By LindyLou [gb] Date 06.01.09 14:19 UTC
If I had to do it, or did it for charity then yes. But would I want to? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;-) :-D

I actually gave it up for a while when I was eating several large bars a day  but was very soon looking for more. I now only eat the occasional bar and usually only when my body tells me to :-)
- By kenya [gb] Date 06.01.09 14:20 UTC
Probably Yes!!

I prefer savoury, esp crisps and cheese, and my fav Pickled Onions!! yum yum
- By newfiedreams Date 06.01.09 14:26 UTC
Ermmm Stormy, I'm supposed to give up chocolate as I am diabetic...have I? No way Hosea!
- By Astarte Date 06.01.09 14:27 UTC
6 years and counting guys... i get chronic migraine and my main trigger is chocolate so i gave it up. cheese to.
- By craigles Date 06.01.09 16:01 UTC
I don't eat much chcolate but when I need chocolate I need it NOW! so no I couldn't, but well done to him x
- By Pedlee Date 06.01.09 16:09 UTC
Same here Astarte, although I was never totally convinced chocolate, or cheese for that matter, were a contributory factor for my migraines. It must be well over 10 years since I last ate chocolate, and I was a real chocoholic!
- By Astarte Date 06.01.09 16:15 UTC

> although I was never totally convinced chocolate, or cheese for that matter

for me it was clearly a corrolation between eating it and  them starting. they are now practically gone through that and some medication. totally worth it though, it was getting so bad!
- By AliceC Date 06.01.09 16:21 UTC
My cousin is just the same - she gets really poorly from eating chocolate. Of course I totally forgot this at Christmas so what did I get for her?? A big tub of Terrys chocolate orange mini's of course!! (we need a rolleyes smiley!)

Lea I have much admiration for your son and I hope he enjoys his chocolate tonight! I dont think I could give up chocolate for that long, but I am more of a fan of crisps - still, I am doing well - its now 4 days and no crisps - now that is good for me! :-D
- By Lea Date 06.01.09 16:23 UTC
Thanks guys,
I have got him a £12 box of thorntons and a congratulations you did it  card :) :)
He is so proud of himself which is great :) :)
He was not someone to give it up easily as he loves chocolate, so was a big thing :) :)
Lea :) :)

 Don't make me put you on 'ignore' Lea!
- By AliceC Date 06.01.09 16:29 UTC
As Malakai said, with determination like that he will go far !! He sounds great and I really hope he enjoys his well deserved treat.

Off to have a look at another thread now as starting to think about chocolate a bit TOO much....
- By Crespin Date 06.01.09 16:44 UTC
Chocolate, yes.  I just wouldnt eat cookies, or pancakes anymore!

But, if you were to say "No Pizza for a year" then I would be lost before it even started.
