Hello
Could anyone advise me my bitch Ivy had a litter .  I also have a scotty bitch we have kept Ivy & Holly apart Ivy with her pups in one part of the house and Holly in another.  Ivy is now wanting to leave puppies for longer periods of time would it be okay to let both my bitches out in the garden together and be together in the house.  I would not let Holly enter the puppies domain.  What I am concerned about is that Holly does not pass anything on to Ivy who is still feeding her litter.   Ivy is quite content to spend time with us then goes willingly back to her pups.
Thanks

It has got to be your decision, but I allow all my girls to spent their time together from day one. All the others can see the puppies and Mum is not stressed by not seeing her friends. I have never had a problem, with a) jealousy or b) infections. I am sure some people will not agree but I like my dogs to be as stress free as I am able to make them. Mum is very happy that her friends are around her and doesn't feel like she is being segregated from her chums.

I'm like Alison. My bitch has access to my other dogs, and vice versa, from day one. If she isn't happy she tells them in no uncertain terms :D and they back off. Not only does it keep mum happy but it also gives the pups a chance to meet and greet other dogs. Not all dogs like puppies, my male is only accepting them now, at 10 weeks :) Mind you, that might have something to do with the fact that most have gone so there's less teeth to bite him  ;)

Mine usually have access to each other a few days after the birth and I've never had any problems.  One of my friends has a few dogs and her bitch is already back in the fold and spending more and more time away from the pups and she seems happy with this situation.

My Mums have their pups in a room the others do not have access to for the first two weeks or until the eyes are open.  the litter then come into the kitchen or living room where all and sundry are and it is up to Mum how much interaction she allows the others with their pups, and the others always respect a Mum :D

There is no way to keep the pups in quarantine and in fact they will have immunity to all that Mum has encountered.  The time to worry about infections when pups reach the age to leave for their new homes and immunity from Mum is on the wane (just the time when you have most people visiting from all over the country) :D

Thanks for your replies I have let my 2 dogs be together and everything went smoothly no problems at all.  It looks like they really missed each other they are just like they were before 1 had her litter.  Bless them
