go buy a which camcorder magazine - there are plenty about. You really have to look at the features and decide what you want. I hadn't a clue when I went to look but some of these magazines are very good and explain all the features - decide what you want and what you can afford then get on the internet or local shops and find the best price.
http://www.camcord.info/basics/index.html is the site I got a lot of info from. I bought a Sony DCR HC46 and got it a bit cheaper because it was in a damaged box. Local camera shop was very helpful. It is very easy to use but I haven't got to grips with editing yet - have got windows movie maker software on my computer already. If you have a modern computer it will probabally be set up with a firewire port to download (or is it upload) the film to edit it or whatever. Haven't got that far. I give up and start reading Champdogs forum instead!!!! but you will need a cable and firewire thingy because the normal usb lead is too slow. Sorry I am still learning. It took me over 20 years to learn how to use my SLR camera (manually) and now everything is digital so don't think I will ever catch up.
