Topic Other Boards / Foo / Which Camcorder?
- By Joany Date 13.10.06 06:47 UTC
 My daughter fancies a camcorder and we have never had one before.  Has anyone any suggestions bearing in mind easy to operate and not over expensive but still pretty good quality.  Also what extra are needed apart from whatever you need to record on.

Any help/suggestions will be appreciated - thanks.

go buy a which camcorder magazine - there are plenty about.  You really have to look at the features and decide what you want.  I hadn't a clue when I went to look but some of these magazines are very good and explain all the features - decide what you want and what you can afford then get on the internet or local shops and find the best price.   http://www.camcord.info/basics/index.html is the site I got a lot of info from.  I bought a Sony DCR HC46 and got it a bit cheaper because it was in a damaged box. Local camera shop was very helpful.  It is very easy to use but I haven't got to grips with editing yet - have got windows movie maker software on my computer already. If you have a modern computer it will probabally be set up with a firewire port to download (or is it upload) the film to edit it or whatever.  Haven't got that far.  I give up and start reading Champdogs forum instead!!!!  but you will need a cable and firewire thingy because the normal usb lead is too slow.  Sorry I am still learning.  It took me over 20 years to learn how to use my SLR camera (manually) and now everything is digital so don't think I will ever catch up.

Thanks Ceejay. You sound a bit like us when it comes to the digital age!

Just bought a Canon MV930 from cameras2you it was £206 instead of £279 and apart from the fact I have to get a firewire to download the films it is brilliant. You will need a card for still pictures as well.Buy every thing at the same time as it works out a lot cheaper and also you get a good deal on the stuff.
