Has anyone had any success with these?

We get an awful lot of fireworks where we live, and the dogs' reaction is getting difficult to the point where I'm reluctant to go out for the evening and leave them both indoors, unless at least one of them is in a crate. They're so frightened, they're in danger of hurting themselves or each other and my girl actually peed herself with fright on Saturday.

We got phosphorus from a homeopathic vet, which helps a lot but you have to be here to give it to them. I'm getting some melatonin, which I tried last year and that helped quite a bit too. I 've tried a DAP diffuser, but with no discernible benefit.

I'd never had any problems with my dogs and fireworks until we took on a rescue rottie. She'd been kept outside and as soon as she hears fireworks she starts drooling, panting and pacing about. Shes not too bad if we're at home but if we're not at home she goes crazy. Concequently we've been house bound at new years and bonfire night =(

I've been trying the CD but it doesnt seem to have the same effect as the real thing. Well, I guess the truth with show come november. =/

I've been told that you need to desensitize the dog to the sound, smell and flashing lights separately, then work on them all together. There are some sound CD's that provide a whole program to follow. These people were recommended to me in a behaviour class I took. He wrote their program.

My vets sell them for just £1 so may be worth a go for the sake of a pound.
Ask at your vets to see if they have them.  Certainly won't do any harm.

If you pm me your email address I can send you an MP3 of fireworks.

Remember you'll have to deal with the smell and the flashing caused by the real thing as well. Every dog is different and getting used to the sound may be enough for some dogs but not all.

I had good success with the firework CDs, starting them at a low volume, and increasing it gradually. Boy did I get sick of the sound of fireworks though! Neither dog was really 'freaked' at the fireworks, but anxious. I will start the CD again soon in the run up to Nov 5th.
