Topic Dog Boards / Health / TPLO Question

My lovely girl had TPLO surgery 3 months ago and as some of you may have seen from prior posts on the forum I have been searching for a good pet sitter.  I telephoned the orthopaedic surgeon the other day and asked if she could go to a pet sitter that already had a dog and he said that she should be fine there and if she played a lot she would still be ok as her bones have now healed.
I wonder did anybody else have this problem or have other dogs in the house and if so was your dog ok 3 months after TPLO to be with other dogs?
Thanks for any help

I have had a dog have this and also have another dog, I don't think I let him play too much or run etc for nearly 6 months but I guess if the orthopaedic surgeon says it's ok then I guess it would be OK?  Where did you go to have the op, it may be the same place as me and in which case I may be exaggerating on the time scale LOL!  He is however 100% fit and healthy now and runs riot!!!  The op was just over 1 year ago.

My dog had TPLO in February and had a follow up X-Ray done in mid-March. The bone site had healed and they recommended slow increases to his exercise. If he ran too hard or played too much he limped quite badly. I took him back in August as I was concerned about this. The surgeon said let him do as much as he wanted now. Sure enough the next week he had some great walks and play sessions with no limping afterwards.

So while the bone site is healed I would ask the sitter to watch her and keep things from getting too wild or she could end up in some amount of pain. My dog was only 10 months old when he had the surgery so you would think he was a pretty fast healer and at 3 months he was still a little fragile.

At 12 weeks after the op the vet specialist said that our rottie could be treated like a normal dog and we could start building up her off-lead runs AND she could finally go back with the other 2 and play - it had been a nightmare keeping seperate for 12 weeks as they wanted to play!

It will depend on your dog and how her recovery has been. We had xrays done at 6 weeks which were sent to the vet specialist. He phoned and said everything was healing fine. We built up her walks from 8 weeks starting at 5 mins 3 times a day, increading by 5 mins a week.
