
You want to teach her to look at the bait and not chew on the bait. Gradually starting with split seconds take the bait away from the nose and tell her to "leave" and then give it back.
Eventually you should be able to hold the bait for her to look at and reward when you want to reward. you will be using commands stand and leave (maybe stay) all at once!!!! :)
If you want to take the bait away teach her to stand on command and with a hand signal. Praise with food when she has got it right.
I have handled dogs in both ways. one dog I couldn't use food with because he would jump. With and command and a hand signal he stood perfectly. Much to his normal handlers annoyance who he doesn't stand for.....!
Also what bait are you using? Is it exciting bait like liver, sausage or cheese? and smelling really tasty? if so don't use it. use something more bland like an ordary dog biscuit! This way there will be no need to lunge! :)
