Instead of bunging him in another room, could you work on training him to do something else, other than 'wash peoples faces and bounce like a loon'.... usually, telling a dog 'stoppit' isnt very productive, because he 'needs' to be doing something, if you give him a new something to do, that can often work.
There can be nasty side effects from neutering, it can slow the metabolism, thus makes the dog gain weight easier (easily solved with less food and more exercise). It can cause a massive drop in confidence which can result in fear aggression. It can cause male dogs to smell female which may invite unwanted attention from other male dogs.
