I've had one of my dogs allergy tested last Friday, to find that she is clear of most things, but is prone to mold and yeast growths. The Malasezzia result was way off the scale, result being 25 and the norm for an allergy result would be 20. The tests were the skin testing not the serum tests.
As I feed her a raw diet, AMP minces etc, what I would like to know is what are the best "Carbs" to feed her, so hopefully not to increase the yeast production. She is currently on antibiotics as she also has a mass amount of bacterial infection in her skin " being a sharpei there's plenty of skin :0(" for approx a month, Ceporex 500mg twice daily, and Nizoral antifungal tabs once a day 200mgs daily. From Sue Paterson's (allergen specialist) report, she is hoping the Nizoral meds will help, and if so she could then be reduced to twice weekly, but this sounds like it will be for life unfortunately :-( I have been recomended to bathe her if and when is needed, but as she has had enough I feel at the moment re- testing and biopsies, I don't want to stress her anymore, so will leave it for a while.
She has also been tested for a Thyroid imbalance in the USA and is now on life-time Soloxine meds. Now showing up a lot in the Sharpei breed
When she is phyically upto being spayed she will be done asap, so reducing the further stress of having a season, and will be a much loved member of my family along with the other 5....LOL the differnce being she needs a lot more TLC and health care.
Hope someone can help me achieve the best food balance for her and any further advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
