
The vet isn't really sure, but a possibility is because she was bleeding all the way through, she thinks that her cervix hadn't closed completely, if that was the case, then she was open to any slight infection..........so even though we didn't notice anything different she may have had an infection which got into her womb and killed the litter :-(
Also another possibility is Canine Herpes, apparently this is now becoming more common than people realise, it can be the cause of fading puppy syndrome. There is a vaccination for this, so next time one of my other girls is mated, we'll be having this just as a precaution. There is a blood test to confirm canine herpes but it costs £200 as the blood sample has to be sent to America.
Thankfully yesterday my girl actually ate something, this was the first since last Saturday! My vet said because she only expelled 4 pups, that her body had a lot of protein to reabsorb, which is why she wasn't eating, so hopefully this is a good sign that things are finally clearing up!
