Thankx

I'm not entirely sure of this, but most books etc I've read say that a puppy should be at least 7 weeks old before it's seperated from its mother and the rest of the litter.

I would say 5 weeks is far too young - I have a litter of 3 week old puppies at the moment and couldn't see them being ready to leave in a fortnight!

Sadly, according to the Breeding and Sale of Dogs Act there doesn't appear to be a minimum age at which a puppy can be sold from a pet shop. Licensed breeders can only sell pups below 8 weeks to pet shops (not to the general public) and unlicenced breeders can sell them at any age.

Five weeks of age is generally considered far too young to leave the mother - 7 weeks is usually considered the minimum.

Hi, although 5 weeks is far too young for a puppy to leave its mother, it would be able to feed itself.  So if you have seen a puppy somewhere that looks very young, it probably IS.  I have known puppies as young as three weeks eat puppy porridge, before they can even walk properly.  Sorry I can't help with the contact though.
