I'm not entirely sure of this, but most books etc I've read say that a puppy should be at least 7 weeks old before it's seperated from its mother and the rest of the litter.
I would say 5 weeks is far too young - I have a litter of 3 week old puppies at the moment and couldn't see them being ready to leave in a fortnight!
Hi, although 5 weeks is far too young for a puppy to leave its mother, it would be able to feed itself. So if you have seen a puppy somewhere that looks very young, it probably IS. I have known puppies as young as three weeks eat puppy porridge, before they can even walk properly. Sorry I can't help with the contact though.
