No I don't think this is normal, it could be swelling around the tubes that is stopping him or it could just be pain, I would phone the vet and ask their opinion.

Hi,
i phoned the vet alittle earlier and he says its unusual for this to happen but not to worry as the dog doesnt seem to be in any pain.
I will be phoning him again later tomorrow if Roscco hasnt been to the toilet as there may be a problem.. pain or not.

Thinking about it all, how big is a dogs bladder.. ive always thought it was compared to a peanut, yet hes drank at least 2 pints...???

I would guess that a medium-sized dog's bladder (say a labrador) would hold about half a pint.
