My partner & I have a 7-month-old Standard Schnauzer that we bought from a breeder that was going to show him. Unfortunately he has a slight problem with his leg which means at the moment he is not of show standard (I have been told that in a few months he will be fine for showing).  As he has this problem the breeder locked him in a shed on his own for a few months until he was sold to us.   When we got him home he was so shy, he would not make eye contact and he would follow us everywhere.  As we have just moved into are first house we have had a lot of people coming in and out of the house, who made a big fuss of him.  So in the 6 weeks we have had him he has now turned into a totally mad & loving dog, who likes his cuddles! Unfortunately now instead of running and hiding from people he runs at them speed jumps up on them and tries to hump there legs!!!  He is starting training classes next week, but I would really like to do something now as my boyfriends little brother has stopped coming round.  Any ideas on stopping him do this would be very helpful.

A few things .....

First off TRAIN your visitors ;) :D This is the hardest thing to do....train ALL visitors and yourselves to totally ignore him when you go back to the house. No eye contact , no hands waving about ..nothing! Make sure visitors stand still and fold their arms. Get them to turn away whenever he jumps up , or move to the side...keep doing this until he sits quietly. The first few times you do this it will take him AGES to twig what is happening. However , once he HAS sussed it out it will quickly become habit to sit quietly in order to get a fuss from you or anyone else when someone enters the home

Secondly , make sure you do take him to the training classes so he gets used to interaction with other dogs and other people and begins to listen to you :)

HTH , I am sure others will give more advice soon

Melody :)
