A few things .....
First off TRAIN your visitors ;) :D This is the hardest thing to do....train ALL visitors and yourselves to totally ignore him when you go back to the house. No eye contact , no hands waving about ..nothing! Make sure visitors stand still and fold their arms. Get them to turn away whenever he jumps up , or move to the side...keep doing this until he sits quietly. The first few times you do this it will take him AGES to twig what is happening. However , once he HAS sussed it out it will quickly become habit to sit quietly in order to get a fuss from you or anyone else when someone enters the home
Secondly , make sure you do take him to the training classes so he gets used to interaction with other dogs and other people and begins to listen to you :)
HTH , I am sure others will give more advice soon
