Hi Guest, the best thing to do here is to go back and see Ella's breeder. They will be able to tell you whether or not Ella is suitable to be bred from, and also tell you what KC/BVA health tests must be done. Then they will be able to suggest a compatible stud dog. You will need about £1000, of spare cash, because breeding a litter is an expensive business. I bred my first litter this year, and only two puppies were born and I kept them both, so no money was made, and I'm out of pocket the £1000. You will also need to take quite a few weeks off work to care for the bitch and her litter,or make some very good dog sitting arrangements. You will also need to take into account that as long as everything goes well you'll have lots of potential puppy buyers to 'vet' and decide if they are good enough to have one of you babies entrusted to them. Also, if you make a wrong decision, would you be able to take the puppy back a any time in its life if the owner doesn't or cannot keep it. This breeding lark is not for the faint hearted, it's very hard work, as I found out and I only had 2 to worry about. Good Luck with whatever you decide.

No doubt you have had your bitch hip scored by the BVA and she is at or under the breed average of 13? You already have homes lined up for the prospective pups (which can be up to 13 in number!).  She is physically and temperamentally sound with no serious faults?  She has hunting ability?

If you are a member of the WCGB or the WA for over a year you will be able to have your litter on their register, if not you will not.  Putting any old dog to any old bitch will not necessarily achieve good results.  The Stud Dog you use should complement her line; the breeder of your bitch will be able to give you the best advice.  Reputable Stud Dog Owners will be careful on what bitches their dogs are used and will have had their dogs hip scored too.

Have you thought how you will cope if the bitch has problems like needing a caesarian and what about puppies that need to be rehomed?

There are so many weimaraners being bred now and so many ending up in rescue; please think long and carefully before breeding.  If you want to breed from your bitch because you like her, why not go back to the breeder from where you purchased her?
