Morse and I met a bouncy pup called Scamp - 6 months old -on our walk today and got chatting. All seemed to go well with the pups, both playful and interested in each other - until we let them off lead when Morse played his chase you chase me game and Scamp bolted for home. Having called Morse and put him on the lead again Scamp came back and they seltled down until Tanya (Scamp loves her) arrived and was well up for playing with Morse and Scampsowner thought it would be good for him to see them play together but he just got even more upset and Morse couldnt understand why Scamp was barking at him, so he ran up to him and barked too. What a mess! Morse and I got back under control, said goodbye and left with apparently no hard feelings. His owner is a nice woman with lots of dogexperience.

Right JG and co, how could I have handled this better and how should we greet Scamp in future?

Dogs, eh!

Over the years I've learned not to expect all dogs to get on perfectly. My lot meet loads of other dogs during the week (I suppose the 'gang' numbers about 30, but they don't all meet at the same time!). Some they play with, some they ignore. Some dogs like one or two, but not all, of mine. One dog likes Harry, but hates Piglet. Another gets on with Piglet, but wants to eat Harry. Over the years they have all learned to rub along okay, with only the occasional 'words' flying between them.

I would guess Scamp was jealous of Morse playing with "his" friend, so shouted rude things at Morse, so Morse shouted back. As long as you all (dogs included) parted friends all should be well. It would be good if you could meet up with Scamp (and his owner!) on the street somewhere, and walk to the park (or wherever you let them off) together. By the time they get let off they will be used to each other's proximity and shouldn't be particularly interested in each other, and would rather go and sniff.

They're all young together, so all should be well. Good luck - hope any of my rambling helps!

Thanks JG :) How do you read their minds like that? That is Morse to a T hes naturally submissive but he does mouth off at times. Will try this or letting Scamp offlead with Morse on lead to help Scamp be more confident.
