My dog occasionally eats grass and I was wondering if I could grow any herbs specifically for her to eat ?

My girl has just always eaten the occasional dandelion flower, but when the dandelions flowered this year she must have eaten dozens - she seemed to crave them. As she had a nasty cancer, and after checking and finding that they had anti-oxident properties, I let her follow her instincts. Sadly, it wasn't a cure though.

My boy likes “sticky grass” - the one with bobbly seeds - and eats it from germination until it flowers. And another as yet unidentified species is favoured in the spring. I think if you can identify the species your dog enjoys, you’d probably be able to buy seeds of it.

I would think if you can identify what your dog likes, and could grow it at home you’d avoid her having to eat from the common hedgerow where who-knows-what has chewed or piddled on it.

To those with dogs who eat grass - be VERY careful they are not at the grass that's seeding.   We had a boy who got into that, but neither we, nor vet, could understand what what was going on until eventually the grass seed he'd ingested tracked from the back of his mouth to just under his ear where it finally pointed and was able to be lanced.  Around 2 inches of grass stalk appeared and was taken out.

Meantime, his head had swollen to the size of a football which my vet had NO idea about and put him onto a huge dose of steroids.  He was sticking his head into the bushes outside and quite honestly I thought we were going to lose him.

If mine tug at grass I'm darned careful it's not the seed spikes.

As for herbs, at one point I used to finely chop parsley and add it to their food which they seemed to like.
