
As said the last thing you need BEFORE whelping is a load of milk. Newborn puppies, who will stimulate the milk coming down by suckling, don't NEED a ton of milk to begin with and if there is too much there, not only will they perhaps not be able to cope with it all, but mum could go to mastitis. Don't worry - and don't 'milk' her - there's absolutely no need. You might lay in a supply of Esbilac, Whelpie etc., just in case, but much as I always do this, I never had to use any. And you can keep newborn puppies going with a warm water and glucose solution in any case. Temporarily. Goats milk is also another option as it's close in make-up to bitch milk.
