5. Requirements for pets entering the UK/EU by air
If you are entering the UK (or another EU country) by air on a flight that began outside the EU it
may not be possible for you to physically accompany your pet, for example because it is
necessary for your pet to be carried in the hold of the aircraft or you are unable to travel on the
same flight.
In such cases you will need to sign a declaration confirming that you do not intend to sell or
transfer ownership of your pet. You must travel within 5 days of your pet's movement.
* If you are bringing a dog, cat or ferret into the UK in order to sell it or pass it to a new
owner (e.g. for rehoming) , you cannot travel under the pet travel scheme. Instead you
must comply with the rules of the Balai Directive. Further information is available:
