Do you think you should have to provide some sort of proof when you enter/send a scan of the certificate to the KC? Like in America where you can have letters by the reg name?

Maybe to make it seem less of a "joke" class as some people might see it.

Going to pass the silver test in a week :D

Nevermind they obviously changed it so certificates should be ready.

It wouldn't be a bad idea, but I don't know how they could prove that 'Ellie' is also 'Willowtump Athelas of Luphenex' on my certificates, as I only gave her pet name to the club.....

Surely you could just get them to write her registered name on the certificate instead of the pet name?

Won't the KC just remove the win when the realise a dog hasn't passed their Good Citizen test anyway? Not every breed sees it as a joke class either. There have been +20 entered in it in Flatcoats the last couple of years and it's been a strong class in terms of quality.

America doesn't have a Good Citizen class, but CGC (Canine Good Citizen) isn't recognised as an official title and isn't supposed to be listed after the dog's registered name. American Bred is the "joke" class in the US, but even that class usually has a strong entry at bigger shows. Again, no way to prove it on the day necessarily but the AKC would revoke the win if the dog wasn't actually eligible.

When the good citizen scheme came into being the certificates were issued at the time of the test with the dogs pet name.

I have no idea if the Kennel club even keep a record of them.

So I assume it's like Eligibility for the Novice, Graduate etc classes, relies on the honesty of the exhibitor.

Certificates are issued at the time of passing with the dogs pet name on but the instructor has to send off a form to the KC within 28 days with the owners full details on it and the dogs KC registered name (if it has one) so they do keep a record of who has passed what.

My two that have the GC are 10 1/2 and 14 1/2 now so honestly can't remember, or know where I put their certs.

I always ensure the registered name is printed on the cert -all you have to do is ask. :) And like has been said, both pet name and reg'd name is on the form that goes back to the KC. In fact when going through some old papers on Sunday I found a letter from the KC addressed to Goldmali Believe (actually printed on the envelope) -that was after passing a GC test as the KC tend to send you info on how to buy badges and stuff.

Thanks all, when we get the silver certificate next week will ask them to put his registered name on it :)

None of the clubs I have done my various tests at over the past 12 years have ever asked me for a registered name for my dogs, they have only ever had the pet names. I think it just has to rely on honesty.
