My oldie (12 years) is on a life policy with Axa and as she is too old to be accepted with another company they have agreed to keep her on even though they have stopped pet insurance. Her premiums have gone up by over £12 per month which is making it so expensive, but at 12 years this is the time I must have her insured. They really have you trapped don't they.

My other 2 are with Petplan and the 2 of them together cost less than my 1 with AXA

yep I have five year old moggie who had rta some while ago and broke and dislocated his leg. Due to this his premiums are £45 pm and I cant change him unless I want to exclude his leg. My 9 year old Burmese only costs £13 atm  as she has no history of illness or accidents however I am expecting her premium to shoot up now she is 9 . My previous Burmese I took the chance when his premiums went up by 163% !and broke even by paying his vet bills myself instead of paying the insurance premium. Its a minefield and so risky

Same here, we have an 11 year old whos insurance premiums have shot through the roof despite never claiming from them. You are trapped somewhat with their age

It's a tricky one when they are old but not impossible.  Opi was with Axa until last year, when my income took a nosedive due to injury and her policy lapsed.  They'd stopped doing new policies by then, so I had to look elsewhere and the only people I could afford were Animal Friends.  The excess is steep for oldies (£99 + 35%, or £69 + 35% if you pay a few quid more) but they do cover them.  She was 10 when her policy started and there are a few levels of cover - she's on the middle one with £2k per condition per year up to £20k, there are two or three higher levels though.  So not bad cover for an older dog, it's just that excess that gets you but then, a lot of companies will add a percentage.
